Stat that says it ain't your day:

Rays against Pomeranz struck out 11 times, but were 7-14 on balls in play (2 line drive outs)

Sox against Odorizzi struck out 4 times and were 5-20 on balls in play (6 line drives).

Farrell need's to bat xander in the 7th or 8th spot right now.

Why? Its not like Shaw, JBJ, Hill, Young, etc are doing much better. Almost the whole lineup is slumping, or just sucks in general (Holaday).

Like I said, right now the team could really use a couple of rain outs in a row.

Where's Crash Davis when you need him?

When your in an epic slump like Xander is, it might be a good idea to drop a bunt there to get Pedey in scoring position. Plus to give XB a good frame of mind.

Who hits second? 5th? 6th? Right now you have 3 guys hitting at all (Pedroia, Ortiz (who was slumping) and Betts (who has cooled off a little). Leon is giving indications of cooling off as well. Half the team has hit .200 or so for the past couple months (or in some cases longer).

If you look at the offense overall since the All-Star break, they have been very reliant on the home run; not a lot of stringing hits together like they did early.

There is nothing that you can do about a game like this. You can't win them all. Hitting will slump and so will pitching, but there is no excuse for stupidity and sloppiness. Two of the losses on this trip were given away with stupidity. I am sorry, but that is how I see it.

Exactly. Its one thing if we lose because of bad luck, or guys just struggling. But the consistent stupid outs on the base paths and idiotic errors in the field, is not acceptable

No offense. This lineup was pathetic from the start.

What lineup would you prefer? The one last night wasn't much better, nor the one the night before. The big different today is no Ortiz, but it's a day game after a night game and Ortiz at 40 with the bad heel needs a rest now and then.

The simple fact is that right now this team depends too much on Ortiz. Last night, with what should have been a good lineup, they struck out 14 times (Bradley 4 times) and couldn't score in the 4th thru 11th innings. If Ortiz had not played last night, the Rays would not have needed 11 innings to beat us. If Ortiz doesn't play in Tuesday's game, we maybe don't win that one.

This team, except for Ortiz, cannot hit decent pitching, period.

You are just going to have to ride out the slumps of certain hitters.

What else can you do.

Yes, but when everyone is slumping we cant afford numerous outs a game on the base paths with the very few base runners we do get.

Even physical errors in the field happen. A bad throw is not a lot different that a bad pitch. Mental errors kill you, and there have been far too many of those lately.

Laughable. 9th inning, 1 run game, and HanRam and JBJ both K. And Ortiz too.

Good pitching trumps good hitting, especially our hitting, almost every time.

Good stuff, but we also looked terrible with the 2 GIDP's and the 1 CS.

I know a lot of people love him, but I don't think Travis Shaw is the answer at 3B or 1B on this team. He doesn't hit well enough to be a be an MLB level starting 1B, and his defense at 3B is way too inconsistent.

Agree, although Pedroia has been doing a passable imitation lately.

This road trip started well and ended in a thump. That was pathetic. These losses against terrible teams will catch up to them. Now i have to root for the angels. Orioles back in the mix.

That is why they have to win the games they should win, but with Farrell at the helm that is improbable.

I believe they are grooming Moncada to be the future third baseman.
