Oh yeah! $60 million. That's $20 million MORE than the Sox have raised for the Jimmy Fund since 2002 with the Telethon. These guys are literally killing children!!!! The horror!!!

Your information pool is indeed impressive. Maybe the great ball players will give some of that dough back to the kids...

You're very confident saying that. I need to see that for a long stretch. He should be embarrassed after tonight's performance.

Beckett's first season in Boston was a bomb and so was Porcello's first season. Maybe it will take Price the season to adjust.

Been mentioning this.........

I'm trying to think of a pitcher that came in and did well the first year...... it's been a while. Hell.. Gange Beckett, Porcello, Price.... Lester..... Lackey........

I'm not sure if it's a Boston thing........ but adjustment to coming here by many recently hasn't been great the first year......

and......... I was good with letting Lester walk........... but then started to think that we need to pay more to people who have shown that they can perform here......

Pretty much....... any person who comes in and does well........... I think we should pay more to keep them.............. like Lester and Beltre as examples......

I also think any NL pitcher coming over to Boston has a huge awakening coming....

He needs to be what we thought we were getting soon....... if it's next season before we see it........... he didn't step up in a season we need him too.......

Mr Price needs to perform well the next game and then multiple games in succession....... or he will continue to be a big disappointment this year.....

Essentially what I'm trying to say...

Lester had his tough years and I loved him being a Red Sox ... but his first season in Chicago was not pretty.

I do think being Boston has something to do with it ... we are so "supportive" or REALLY not ... intense ...

Know what? Look at Cueto ... sucked in KC ... great in SF ... why??

But I think we miss the intangibles on Price. He isn't a di*k, like some of our former players. He has been a source of strength and help for many of our younger pitchers. Apparently there is no help for Clay .... he seems beyond the horizon and totally useless.

I don't doubt he is embarrassed. I know the wind didn't help ... when the wind slowed down, he pitched better ...

Consistent? I'd like to see him have a great run too. I will have to do some actual digging to see what he's been doing but he has been doing better, most of the time. I'll edit this post if I do the real checking ...

In all seriousness, they need to cut loose Clay.....it's bad for team chemistry. Here's a guy that's been here for several years, been told he's out of rotation. Why tease and torment the guy with token relief? Get rid of him and bring in Kelly. If he fails, trade his ass......find out if these guys can do the job and move on when it doesn't work out.

Perhaps they do need to cut Clay loose, but Clay's outing last night was undone by 2 defensive miscues. He really can't be faulted for that.

Then enlighten us on what you would have done differently (and of course, you can guarantee perfect results, right).

I'm glad there is a voice of reason on this thread.

Farrell's hands were somewhat tied by Price not getting deeper into the game. Tazawa and Barnes were both unavailable. People can second guess Farrell all they want, but that's all it is.

Still can't believe Price is having this kind of season. Didn't see this coming. I mean, this is his first year in Read Sox uniform, it's not like this is his last year of his contract.

I have been pretty hard on Price, but only because I expected so much more. Honestly, I can't believe he's having this kind of season either. If there were ever a sure bet on a free agent pitcher, he would be it.

I still have confidence that he will figure it out sooner rather than later. That's the type of player/person that he is.

Adjust to WHAT? He's pitched his entire career in the AL and almost all of it pitching in the AL east. He has "adjusted" just fine to two other teams he was traded to.

I must admit...The excuses are starting to get lame. At least after the first few starts the excuse makers could jump up and down about BABIP and k's. I guess now we have moved on to "adjustment" and 2 other pitchers had sh!tty first seasons with the sox (neither of who was signed to a 7 year/$31mm per free agent contract to get here)... Can't make this stuff up.....

No excuses for Price - just seems to be s***** luck on our part - he's having the worst season of his career - our 2016 chances may be screwed as a result.

To be fair, playing in Tampa, Toronto, and Detroit is nothing like playing in Boston. I city were people's religion is baseball. That and he's also under a lot of pressure to live up to that size contract.

Great. So we are paying $31MM x 7 for a pitcher with the mental makeup of clay?

i am not making an excuse for him. I am just making an observation that pitchers who come here struggle in their first year.

Where do you come up with this ********?

I thought it was Hanley who was a mental midget that would be a nightmare at 1b?

Clearly Price is a choker.

Look, I know from my experience scouting HS kids that Price is done. He has no confidence out there. He's a bum.

I don't think anyone said that. ?

But conversely are you saying he has pitched like an ace?

Because that is what it is coming across as.

Possibly you have your head in the sand?
