I personally wanted Kelly killed or not on the team.

 

I thought he could be an ok swing guy, but preferred him buried in the bullpen.

@loumerloni 20 games in 20 days. Porcello could have gone 7. Can't use Ziegler and Koji everyday in non save games. They add up

'Non save games'? C'mon Lou, that's crap...a 4 run lead has been known to disappear in Fenway pretty quick.

I considered it a fluke. He was still giving up a lot of base runners even when he had good starts. I thought he sucked as soon as I saw him pitch and he's done nothing to change my mind. The last thing I want is him closing so he can walk 2 guys, hit a man then give up a grand slam in a 3 run game.

Not lately.

 

July 9 - pitched.

July 10-14 - off.

July 15 - pitched (14 pitches)

July 16 - pitched (7 pitches)

July 17-18 - off.

 

So from July 10 to July 18, 9 days, he threw 21 pitches.

Understand completely. The thought for me was that he does indeed have electric stuff and if just being used for 1 inning maybe a couple MPH could be added to that mid 90's FB. Much of it was discussed middle of last season when he struggled as a SP and koji also was. Hotstove Thought it might be a better option than having him as a starter and we were coming of a season in which koji looked human and needed a lesser role. Once we traded for kimbrell it didn't make sense to have Kelly try.
