Hard part is I gotta go to work after missing sleep. Terrific win all around. Funny how the outcast of poker flats, one Chris Young, is now looking like a pretty good acquisition who was maybe helped by Chili Davis.

Shaw, meanwhile, seems to be in trouble because he struggles against anyone who can consistently throw to the outside part of the plate. I mean that last night the Giants pitchers all had his number--just throw to the outside part. He might hit it, but won't hit it solidly. High time for Shaw to make his own adjustment.

yuuuuuuge win.

Pretty big, all right. Porcello wasn't great but he was good enough long enough, and the Sox really needed this win.

Totally fell asleep last night . Happy to wake up and see we won't 5 3 last night... damn after that ugly 4th by Porcello I wasn't expecting that.

Porcello was actually decent. QS, not a crazy amount of hits/baserunners. A-Ok.
That is all that i want to get from him --innings and a 4 ERA.

I still can't make sense of all the homers and K's. He's a f***ing Shields impersonator out there. The surprising part is that he's not leading the league in HR's allowed. Hell, he' not even top 5!

Actually? He's been the most consistent non-knuckleballer guy in the rotation this year.

The homer wasn't even a bad pitch. Down and away; yeah it could have been a little more down and away, but it was the kind of pitch that a left handed hitter will often roll over and hit a grounder to second with.

or that a .205 hitter could hit out of the park.

Sometimes pitches down the middle get popped up, sometimes good pitches get hammered. Betts nails a ball up the middle that was caught by the pitcher. Bogie bloops one into no mans land that score 2 runs to win the game. It's baseball.

Porcello gives up too many Home Runs. Where yesterday's HR pitch was is irrelevant. His HR rate has skyrocketed since we got him.

Great win!

Couple of things. Porcello faced a weak lineup --without Posey and Pence --- and was very lucky in the fourth. An ALE team would have pounded him, badly. As I said in other threads, his HR/FB% won't let him keep his ERA under 4. His career HR/FB% is 12%; that's horrible, i.e. He will allow more bombs. We still have a lot games against AL team and in Parks where are not pitcher-friendly like SF. He needs to make some adjustments --whatever that means-- otherwise he could regress badly. His ERA after his first five starts is over 5, his regression was inevitable. He is not a PO pitcher by any means. We need a good pitcher, badly. At this point the only reliable are Price and Wright. ERod is a big ? to me, and Porcello's ceiling is a No. 4 profile.

Shields is not an option anymore. Zimmermann could be a nice option. IMO Tigers ain't going anywhere this year. Teheran is not an ace but he can be a solid No. 2 -- probably more. IDK out there are plenty of possibilities, but what is clear to me is that we have to do something regarding pitching.

One could also say he was unlucky in the fourth. Two very soft hit singles followed by the sharp grounder through the hole set the whole inning up. The walk to force the run in was not good, but better that than giving up a big fly ala Buchholz, and he minimized the damage with the DP ball.

I'm not sure what people are expecting. He's not a Cy Young candidate. He's a #3-4 starter. He's durable, he'll give you 6 or so innings most times out. He's going to give up 3-4 runs most games. Those types of pitchers are going to look great when everything is in sync, but they don't keep it in sync for more than a few games at a time.

Realistically, if before last night you were told Porcello would give you 6 innings and 3 runs, how many would have taken it? Be honest. I know I would have.

The hilarious part is that iortiz consistently shits on Porcello but lavishes praise on James Shields, when they are essentially the same pitcher. Shields throws more innings, Porcello is younger, but then they have essentially the same profile. If this was a Shields start, he would have rationalized the outing the other way around.

3-4 Runs per game through 6 IP from Porcello in most of his games? I'd take it any day of the week.

Unfournatly IMO we are not going to get that from Porcello moving forward.

LOL! I don't s*** Porcello. He shits himself.

Also Shields and Porcello do not have the same profile. Shields was/has been/is way better pitcher than Porcello. Go figure.
