Good Buchholz is a distant fond memory. He gives up too many multiple run bombs.

The good pitchers avoid damages like that. He flat out sucks. Ship him to Pawtucket.

For Lonnie Chisenhall? Don't we usually reserve this sort of vitriol for when the Sox strike out A-Rod or Pierzynski or A-Rod again?

Rajah Davis swinging and getting hit.

Not sure i guess. what do you think? I don't want to see the kid traded actually.

As long as he still gets work in at C, it should be ok.

if Buchholz pitches well, what do you think, picking up the option still make sense?

Nope. Not worth the risk.

Is the hand an extension of the bat?

I know that if a batter swings and misses a pitch and it hits him, it is a dead ball strike. However, what happens if he swings at the pitch and it hits his hand? Is his hand considered an extension of the bat and the ball is live, or is it a dead ball strike because it hit the body?

Thanks,

Layne: Well, let me ask you a question. If he puts a bat in his hand, and he drops it, is his hand going to drop with the bat or his hand going to stick to his body? So is his hand part of the bat? So, it's kind of common sense. If he gets hit in the hands, that's his body, if he gets hit in his bat, that's his bat. And if he swings, he doesn't go to first base when he gets hit.

I just love how Cherrington unloaded Lester and Lackey and kept the headcase. Thanks Ben.

A no-brainer!

I might be thinking of cricket where if the ball hits the hand and then gets caught, the batter is out.

Hand is part of the ball in basketball. I am not sure that there is a similar rule with the hand and bat.

This covered by a specific rule, although I've never seen it happen: as a poster noted above, if you are hit while attempting to swing, it's a dead ball strike. (Doesn't matter where, apparently). So you can't, say, hit a fair ball if the ball touches your hand during the swing.
