I've lost my patience. I'm done with Clay.

Yup, the guy is never going to figure out how to be aggressive when it's needed, like when against a bad team.

The No Brainer has struck once again.

I have caught s*** several times for questioning picking up his $13. mil option. Now, it seems many others are finally fed up with his act.

Someone has suggested that in his next start, Buch will pitch very well. And that is not only possible but likely.

As far as I am concerned, weather it made financial sense to some or not, signing this guy was really not a good idea.

Also, that play at second where Xander was tagged out, lol, I have never seen anything like that in my 50 years of Sox fandom. Crazy s***.

It trapped the FO into the certainty of needing to replace at least one starter at mid season. That could increase to 2 or 3 if Kelly continues to s*** the bed and if ER's knee acts up. No brainer's option puts our depth in question for day one, and our depth is not that great.

The problem with the Buchholz option is that they were already thin depth-wise. Picking up the option is not the problem (stop worrying about the money) further improving pitching depth was the problem.

I'm not worried about the money at all.

I was not in favor of having him pitch here for any amount. It has been time to move on from this guy for quite a while.

He is not reliable. And his net production could be found somewhere, I believe.

My older son wrestled in high school. He had a teammate who had state medalist ability (and Illinois is one of the top 4-5 states as far as high school wrestling goes, so that is saying something). But the kid never quite broke through to that level. After his senior season he was asked about it and he said he never really liked wrestling, he just did it because he was good at it.

I sometimes get the impression that Buchholz doesn't really like baseball. He plays it because he is good at it (relatively speaking).

Who knows? Really, who knows.

It has been clear for several years that he has "the stuff", that his "Stuff is good" and all that.

I have always considered him a lunkhead. Maybe that is not fair or accurate. He just seems to zone out or act lost on the mound. Maybe I am imagining this?

One game he will have wipe-out stuff and dominate. Then he will get pounded early in his next start and be pulled after 4 innings or such.

There must be a reason why his is inconsistent.

Your idea is as valid as any.

It might be health too. It's always been heavily whispered that Buchholz can't pitch through a hangnail. Unless he's 100% physically, he's not effective, and that way it's impossible to be consistently effective since pitching is a game of attrition against your own body, and he's pretty fragile either ways.

You very likely might be right. it would not be the first time that this has happened. I think that it is possible that he still loves the game but not all of the crap that goes along with it. He has to be smart enough to know what people think of him and what is expected of him everyrtime he takes the ball. If you feel as though you can never get things right, all the money in the world won't make things better.

Lunkhead is a good way to describe Clay. I don't think he zones out, but I don't think he has the mental toughness to be consistently good.

That said, picking up his option was still a no brainer and will be regardless of how good or bad Clay pitches.

Honestly, what were the options? They could have gotten another pitcher and kept Buch.
Or since it was such ano-brainer to pick up his option, they could have picked up his option and traded him to get some value for him.
