if Castillo was the Red Sox centerfielder that would be my Tracker. but since he signed with the EE, it has always been JE v RS CFer.

Contract / $$$ has nothing to do with my point system. although every once in a while i do like to point out the avg cost per point. personally i would have let JE walk for $90MM let along the $153MM that the yankees paid him. the fact that we have a chance to come out on top for 2 out of the first 3 years of his 7 year contract with a player making basically league minimum is pure gold. and i dont expect JE to improve his chances in future years as he ages.

It is almost impossible for Bradley to lose in any comparison as he cost nothing, so that doesn't show me how well the team has deployed its resources. Comparing the acquisition of Castillo to Ellsbury would show me how well the FO has deployed their resources. If Castillo had come out guns blazing in 2014, he might have won the CF job. He had the opportunity.

i am not trying to compare how the red sox spend their $180MM vs how the Yankees spend their $220MM per year. it is not a salary comparison.

That's illogical on two fronts:

A) Saying Bradley cost the Sox "nothing" is a fallacy, since they signed, developed and now pay the league minimum to Bradley.

B ) The system is a direct comparison between Ellsbury and the player currently occupying his position for the Red Sox. No use further complicating the comparison just because you want to point the FO's failures in their deployment of resources. We're all well aware of that, but it's out of the scope of what slasher is trying to track/compare.

JBJ has produced beyond what we could hope for. With the consistent D in CF and a much friendlier contract then JE this is a no brainer.

This times 2. I loved Ellsbury but JBJ has been nothing short of awesome for us. Love his energy everything he Is out there.

I loved Ellsbury, and unlike Damon, I do not begrudge him for signing with that other team. I would have welcomed Ellsbury back for a reasonable contract.

I know a lot of people felt we should have ponied up the big money for Ells, but JBJ vs Ellsbury is Exhibit A on why you have to often let your free agent stars walk, regardless of how painful it might be.
