The ridiculous amount of home runs he gives up really worry me.

There's a big difference between "he gives up a lot of homers" and "he's trash".

I mean he was pretty awful last year and has given up 4 home runs in two starts so far this year. Trash is a bit harsh I guess, and yeah I know he faced Blue Jays twice, but I can't say that I have much confidence when I see Porcello on the mound.

It's not too early to make a judgment about the rotation. If you wait too long, you can find your self in a desperate situation like last year. ERod if healthy has the potential to pitch like a #2, but that is not a sure thing. Buch will pitch only through June.Let's not kid ourselves. Porcello is a #4/5 with a possibility of a #3 if everything falls into place for him. He is not a #2.

If you make a judgement about how well the SP will do this year you will be doing it based on previous performances over the past few years, not this year. Porcello's ERA over the past three full years was 3.53/3.67/4.13-not aweful. Buchholz is at 2.68/4.01/2.78. ERod was 3.85 last year. Any of them or all of them could perform well this year.

What you're saying is that you shouldn't use past performance to predict future performance? Because if that's how things work, let's throw stats out the window and make up the performance expectancy for players based on how awesome their beards are or how cool their nicknames sound.

I'm OK with Porcello on the rotation. Not for the money he's making, but he's serviceable. Your rotation can't all be #1 guys. The HRs concern me too, but plenty of worse pitchers out there.

Porcello is a #4. He is a sinkerballer who has found a liking for the Home Run ball since we got him. I am not going to hold my breath waiting for him to pitch like a #2. Last year he pitched like a #6. He has a useful role to fill in the 4th slot, and if things break the right way and he pitches like a #3, I will genuflect, bless myself and give thanks.

For some reason, Porcello's approach has changed. Check out his pitch/FX and you'll see lots of work in the upper/middle parts of the plate with a variety of pitches. He's still sinker-dominant, but doesn't work in the lower quadrant of the strike zone as much as he used to. Like last year, K's are up, but so are HR's allowed.

When he was with the Tigers, he lived consistently low in the zone. We haven't seen that guy at all.

Judge away...but I am going to wait to see about six starts. In his last 8 starts last year, from Aug 1 on, his ERA was 3.14. He has pitched twice this year, both vs Toronto, probably the best offense in the league, and had one bad outing and one good one.

As a pitcher, I just wouldn't work the main Toronto guys (Donaldson, Bautista, Encarnacion who punished him hard and Tulo) middle in. He did with wildly different results in both starts.

Hembree has been really solid thus far, what's his limit pitch/inning wise?

Remy said he has thrown a max of 24 pitches in any outing in Pawtucket.
