Pablo is such a goner that the only reason to even think about him is to try to figure how not to pay all of his remaining salary. There's no place for him on future Red Sox teams. If they can trade him and only pay 80% of what's left to pay they should be satisfied.

Pablo can show up in good shape and play hard. The problem is that he'll be 2 years older than the last time he played good and he didn't play at all last year. So he's a player already in decline who is now also coated in rust.

 

I don't mean to sound like I'm defending the fatso. I hated the signing and hated even more his attitude coming into camp both years here.

 

I will say that players have declined in their late 20's and then improved again. Some even go on to have very decent late careers. Either they changed their ways, learned something important and/or just matured. 30 is not too old to have a few more plus seasons, even for a player in a long decline pattern.

Good point, but I have to add one more clarification: I've lived in the north (Maine, NY and Wisconsin) and I've lived in the South (Mexico & Texas). Way more people go to church down here every Sunday, but charity and doing good deeds seems to be lacking beyond those church doors.

 

(I hope I didn't open a can of worms. It's just my observation after living down here for 9 years plus.)

Certainly Panlo or Moncada will be our third baseman for at least the last 20 or so games this year. You don't have to even look at Sandoval's fielding stats in the past to know he was a far superior 3rd baseman than is Shaw. I'd like to see them compete for the job for the rest of the season. Pablo looks to be in shape, and Moncada is hitting Ruthian shots in Maine!
