JBJ - yes I know it is good to have production from the 9 hole- yes I get that maybe it helps him from a pressure perspective. Blah blah blah. Eventually that bat moves up. i'm a believer.

Porcello really shouldn't be back in the game.

Agreed, but he hasn't logged a lot of innings this year and he is in a groove right now. He has been handling a very potent lineup. We may have a big lead, but our parade of pigs from the pen could change that.

David Cone said it recently that Shaw doesn't give an inch against lefties. The kid has a live bat. He makes a lot of good contact even on his outs, and he rarely looks overmatched.

Daubach V2.0

Daubach looked great when he was in the groove. He hit the ball hard to all fields, but when he went cold, it looked like he had been struck blind. He would put up 3 weeks of helpless ABs. I will have to wait to see if that happens to Shaw.

Stop winning

There are many reasons I agree with this.

It's a conundrum. What to do with Hanley Ramirez. Send him on vacation until the big boy retires.

The way it's looking lately, I'd rather keep Sandoval and get rid of Hanley. Sandoval has at least been somewhat productive recently and has made some good defensive plays too. Hanley's bat is just dead at this point.

We're making progress towards a non-lost season. I don't see why some of you want us to tank. We know what we need. High draft picks won't come soon enough. With this young core, we're an ace or two and a first baseman away from contending

I guess at this point we can't trade Bradley, he just keeps going...

I can't see breaking up this outfield for anything. It would have to be a deal that the FO is blown away by to trade Bradley or Betts. Henry has stated that improving defense will be a top priority. Well, it doesn't get much better than what we have right now.

That first baseman is quite possibly already on the team, be it Hanley (though I have my doubts about that), Shaw, or as Spud has suggested, Swihart. IMO, we're in good shape as far as the position players go. We're also looking in much better shape as far as the rotation goes than we were a month ago. That's not to say we don't need that #1 pitcher, but things are certainly looking promising.

And just say no to tanking!

I would like to see someone like a Chris Davis. We need another lefty power bat. If not though, Hanley's offense fits the Fenway mold, so I'm down with that.

This is a whole lotta nonsense.

There is a good chance that if all energies and $ were put into acquiring pitching, both starting and bullpen help, this team would be ok. First base may or may not be an issue. Really think that Shaw has proven that he can play a little. 8 home runs in fairly limited action is something to think about. In Portland, you have Sam Travis, one of the most productive players in our minor leagues. It would be nice to see a bat like Ramirez playing that position but not at all if he can't field it. I don't think that they were being patient as much as they were being stubborn by continually sending Ramirez and Napoli up to the plate. If they try Hanley at first and it doesn't look good, here is hoping that it won't take them a half a season to figure it out. Right now it is definitely about the pitching.

I think all the focus this offseason should be on pitching. The position players should be fine with what we already have. If Hanley could be an average first baseman, that would solve a lot of our issues.

I think there's a fine line between being patient and being stubborn. When you know you have a good hitter, it's tough to pull the plug on him because he's likely to turn it around at any moment. Last I checked, Napoli was hitting very well since being traded.
