Besides Zimmerman, who do you think is untouchable? The Orioles are 4 games back, the Rangers are 6 games back, and everyone else is even more. Fister might be available in a trade that fills a hole for the Nats.

I do suppose Gallardo is available, but I don't want to see him come here. And I guess if the Orioles struggle out of the break, Chen could go too.

Buch going down has forced the Sox hand with Johnson. Now we will see if he can contribute. Of course I do hope that he does but even if he and ERod can start enough, pitch enough innings, and win more than lose I can see no way that this team even sniffs the playoffs.

Of course if they decide to go out and snag two top starters ( possible, not likely ) at the deadline all bets would have to be off. I think even iOrtiz would have to agree!

Detroit and Cincy are going nowhere this year. Ben could go big and snag Price and Cueto!!! Go big or go home I say! Of course this would necessitate unloading several top prospects. I'm not keen on that. But if both pitchers would sign extensions I'd do it.

f*** the Cap.

Go all Yankee on the league!

I agree. The team has 6.5 games to make up, so staying status quo will likely not get it done. I don't see two top starters coming, but even some bullpen help and an innings type starter would help.

You expect too much my friend. You expect too much.

Let the man think positive. There's far too little of that around here. ;)

Swihart, Owens, Margot and one more for Kaczmir and Sonny Gray. Who hangs up first?

I would do this deal yesterday but I don't think Beane would.

If I were the A's, I would want a top prospect for Kazcmir, so one of the above makes sense.

The question is Sonny Gray's value. Would 2 top prospects be enough? 3? Its never an easy question.

No, because dealing Gray right now is stupid. You can get an Owens, Margot combo for Kazmir as he's under control at low money for another year and has been dominant (if not fragile). Gray is one of the 5 best pitchers in all of baseball and is what, 23? Swihart plus one more does not get Gray

Billy Beane has already said that he will not trade Gray. If he does, I will question the meaning of life.

Do you know how many times Beane has said he won't trade someone, only to turn around and trade them? He just did a couple months ago with Donaldson!

Yes. I said that with sarcasm, with the point being that I will have to reconsider the word trust.

How about for Betts straight up for Gray?

Posted
That'd be digging a hole to cover another hole.

Easier to cover an outfielder hole. But that would get Beane listening.... then the negotiating starts.........

I would wait until next off season and sign a couple of good FAs. I do not see a reason at this point to give up our best young talent.

I wouldn't touch our core players this year. ERod, XB, Betts, Blake, Holt (LOL!) and probably HR and Pedroia as well would be untouchables... Other than them, trade whoever you want.

I'd trade for pitching any day of the week.......

but not stupid like.........

Serious question, Pal why do you spell Kazmir's last name with a "c" in it?

I knew a Polish guy named Kaczmirski. Probably can't seem to shake that one.

Come on Jacko, No one is trading two top prospects for two months of Kazmir.

I would not trade Betts and i would not trade XB - means you have a pant load of prospects that someone thinks are going to be great who will eventually play ss and any of the 3 outfield positions. to get Gray (which ain't happening) I trade any of the rest except E-Rod.

For some reason I thought Kaz had another year on his deal. That being said, Owens has taken a major step back this year, so if you want a top flight rental, dealing him won't get you what it would have last year

I think Ben needs to do something big for the team to escape the cellar again. Also, his job is on the line imo. He needs to escape the cellar if he wants to remain employed in baseball. It will take a couple of pitching moves to make this team a serious contender, but one arm might be enough to lift it from the basement. I don't know if Ben has what it takes to build a staff and I would be shocked if he could rebuild a staff on the fly. We know that he can dismantle a staff. Lol! I am also not sure that he has enoiugh confidence of his management anymore for them to sign off on any big deals.

I can't see the FO trading either of those players.

As far as getting Gray goes, it's not likely. However, Beane has been known to do some pretty off the wall things. He might have some interest in some players that the Sox do not value as highly. I'm sure the Sox are inquiring.

it has been said they will not deal for rentals. The Mets have arms I like a lot, Degrom, Syndergaard, Matz, etc. Margot/Devers are our best prospects. I wouldn't hesitate to deal them for one of the Mets pitcher.
