Hanley caught one off the wall before it hit the ground and Altuve was still fast enough to score from first base.

It looks like there's confusion as where the cut off man will be. That's coaching.

Hankey may have bobbled a ball, but Masterson would've let the runner score right after anyway.

Our pitching stubbornly clinging to the worst ERA in the league. Hey Ben, it's the pitching, stupid! Get us some pitchers that can give us some consistency and give us a chance to win.

Bad, undisciplined fielding (not just incompetent, as in LF), and an innings worth of pitches in the middle of the strike zone. This mess is really unfixable.

I agree with everything in your post on the prior play by Hanley. I was referring to the one good play Hanley made after that. There were no mistakes on that. Altuve was just too fast and read the play so well.

Even on that one, he seemed to not know if there'd be a cut off.

Masterson was a complete fail. Going into the year he was the biggest question mark.

To throw him out there again after sending him down is insanity.

Masterson was bitching about being in AAA. They probably brought him up to keep him quite. He deserves to be in AAA though. He is trash.

No one knows where they are supposed to be in the IF and no one in the OF knows what they are supposed to do with the ball. Yes, you are right that that is the fault of the coaching.

Masterson has a major league contract. He was only in AAA to rehab an injury. You can't generally just stash guys with major league contracts in AAA just for shits and giggles without DFAing and such.

Which leads me to believe he is insane. Just before being sent down he was bitching about being taken out of the game while he was getting rocked by the A's while throwing a fastball topping at 89 mph.

The Red Sox better get to DFAing or get used to being in last place.

OK, cut him then. That's what I should have said. Yea, maybe he had dead arm or something at the time he was dropped down. But seriously, marching him out there again won't be successful.

I'd put Kelly in the pen and DFA Masterson.

Me too, but if they insist on keeping masterson here thats where he has to end up.

To me, Masterson was a low risk low reward guy. He was unproductive right out of the gate so he should have been dumped the second he came back from the DL.

They are just wasting time if they keep him around. He's done as a starter. I might let him pitch out of the pen, but he has to be removed from the rotation. He has no chance of succeeding. The velocity he needs isn't there and it isn't coming back.
