ARod hitting the game winning HR to tie Mays was probably the worst case scenario way for the Sox to lose that game. IMO, it was just sickening.

That said, I can take some solace from the fact that Masterson pitched a solid game, especially considering it was against an all lefty line up.

Both starting pitchers pitched well enough to lose. As you said in your saber thread, the randomness of the universe stepped in and that was that.

That and failed pen work.

I noticed the all lefty lineup before the game, and I thought Masterson would have a very tough time. I was surprised that his results were as good as they were. How was his velocity?

I missed last night's game. I decided to avail myself of the opportunity to see to of the games top pitchers (Harvey and Scherzer) go head to head. After the game, I caught the end of the Red Sox game on the radio with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. I had just missed the ARod homer. They were just gushing. Sterling called it one of the most dramatic things you would ever see. He described the fans reaction to him as very loud and negative and he just went on and on about his great feat. They said how difficult it was to come off the bench in freezing weather to face a guy who was throwing 96 mph. They went on about him until the end of the game and described the scene after the game as if every writer and announcer was lined up to interview the great ARod. Was this close to accurate?

I did not listen to the Yankee broadcast so I don't know if it is an accurate description. However I do trust you to be accurate with this stuff so I assume the worst.

I'll say that the new A-Roid love is absolutely sickening and hypocritical. I do understand Jacko or anyone else that is loyal to their team to want even the resident douche bag to hit HRs. That's cool. But overt displays of affection and admiration for someone who has thumbed his nose to the game and all it's fans is just detestable. I called it very early in the off season. The cretin Yankee fans are doing their thing falling in line.

I now have pre-puke in my mouth.

Pruneface, one question -- Do you prefer Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee?

Why can't they both sponsor the Red Sox? One can take over for the other midway through the 4th. Crispy Creme can handle the 9th and extra innings. Do you think we'll ever see advertising on uniforms? They're feeling a little left out, and honestly, I pity them.

I want the most garbage waste throwaway cup and unfair trade practiced bean around. Where's the pleasure if it's not at someone else's expense? I also want that plastic lid to proclaim itself as green and environmentally friendly with 'minimal' waste. I enjoy bald-faced lies because there's something humorous in the honest effort of obfuscation, no matter how unsophisticated. That way, I get to pretend. If pressed, I'd say I prefer oil. We all run better on oil. Behind every drop of coffee, there's a hefty dose of oil.

I was mostly listening to the TV so I did not see his velo.

I think that the lefty match-up thing was over hyped.

It was just one game. Over many games he probably would get noticeably shelled but who knows?

Spud, I was wondering if the Yankee broadcast reflected reality at all ( other than the fact that ARod hit a PH HR). Sterling tends to call a fictional account of games. He practically depicted the Fenway crowd as a hate- fueled mob heaping abuse on the stoic hero ARod. I was wondering if the Red Sox broadcasts matched up with this account.

And relative to other Yankee fans, Jacko only qualifies as moderately obnoxious. :D

jacko is a teddy bear compared to most Yankee fans.

Oh believe me, I know. I have even posted before that I thought Jacko seemed like a pretty good guy, for a Yankees fan. I just didn't appreciate the need to rub it in our faces. If he's on a Yankees game thread on a Yankees forum, then gloat away. Doing so in a Red Sox game thread is just obnoxious.

The Sox announcers just made note of the booing each time he stepped up to the plate. The booing was of normal volume and there was no overt hatred from what I saw.

His velocity average around 87 -88, I believe.

But, in all fairness, the Yankees did win. If I was in his position, I would definitely be gloating, just lighthearted of course.

This is the post of the year, IMO.

The Yankees organization is being hypocritical too. On the one hand, they are praising ARod for how well he's hitting, how much he's helped the team so far this season, and how well-behaved he's been. On the other hand, they going to battle him over $6 million.

I would be gloating too, but I would be doing it here on a Red Sox forum. I would not go to a Yankees board and post something like that in the Yankees fans' game thread.

The Yankees announcers were being a little overdramatic, as is usually the case. I could not tell if the booing was greater than normal, but ARod commented something to the effect that he usually doesn't hear the booing, but that last night's was hard to ignore.

Yes, because many of their fans are so egregiously cocky and obnoxious that they might actually find a way to shoot us dead through a computer.

I usually drink kirkland. I had a professor who drank coffee with a shot of red wine. Funny, that one.

Ew. I like coffee with Bailey's myself. Very tasty indeed.

Now it makes sense to me how you can relate so well to the plight of the world's oppressed underclass.

But obviously we need to allow Doug Flutie to bring his.

I truly believe Flutie still thinks he's a Sophmore at BC.

Loved watching him play but the guy is a major douche bag of a person.

College was about 30 years ago for him. He might have matured.

I worked in Natick for 6 years. Several of my coworkers went to school with both of the Flutie boys.

Darren was okay but Doug was a creep. The Father was a raging alchy.
