Let's see how well this goes over. I'll be at school for this whole game, and I won't be posting. It's the finale, and the Sox risk losing their first series of the year with a loss. At least they can split the series with a win.

LHP Wei-Yin Chen (0-0, 4.35) vs RHP Justin Masterson (1-0, 7.59), 11:05 AM First Pitch, my favorite start time of the year.

WIN!

Clay and Masterson have been shakier than an alcoholic with parkinson's during prohibition. Unless a miraculous transfiguration occurs not seen since the last day of Christ, the Sox are likely to let them walk at the end of the year. Miley and Porcello are locked up for better or worse and Kelly is arb eligible until 2019 when he becomes a FA. If they're still in contention (can .500 ball be enough?), they could opt to trade for a rental ace at the deadline. I'm hoping at least one AAA prospect finds his way into the rotation before year's end.

There's been a debate on here whether the Sox overpaid for Porcello or not. Stepping outside the crazy bubble of MLB for a second might help gain some perspective. This guy is making over 20 million a year to chuck a ball in a children's game while farmers that work to feed the rest of us parasites are in so much debt, they spell the word by taking out a b and inserting an 'a' and an 'h.' Back in the baseball bubble, maybe they overpaid or maybe they didn't. Time will tell.

Entertaining post. Even inside the crazy world of baseball,$20 million/year for 4 years is at the top of the scale for a number 3 type starter. Porcello will probably be our best pitcher so I will feel good when he takes the hill. Nevertheless, Bennie didn't pay wholesale for him. He paid full retail plus a premium. He also extended Miley who looks like a bottom half mediocrity. Why stop at those two? Maybe he should extend Kelly so we can have a core of mediocrity for 3 years. I don't understand why yhe rush to sign either one to extensions. Do they expect there to be a shortage of middle/bottom of the rotation types? I don't get it. In the meantime we will get to watch a lot of high scoring games. Has anyone else noticed that opposing batters have been tripping over each other running to the bat rack? Edited by a700hitter

It's like you haven't watched baseball for years. 20 million per is the new 10 million per. Upper-echelon talent is now making 27-30 mill per, not 20. Get with the times.

The guy at the office who has money on every game on every sport told me the over on this game is 9 runs.

I'm going with the over.

Come on Masterson.

And he adds "for 4 years", like a shorter term is a bad thing.

That's the main reason they got up to 20 per. Shorter years for higher AAV is a great roster-building philosophy, especially if you are paying for a guy's prime years.

I think it is clear too that the philosophy for position players and pitchers is much different with regards to these things (as it ought to be) ...

You shut your whore mouth.

He's probably more right than you are Madam thought police. The only way we win today is if we score eight or nine runs and Farrell pulls his head out of his ass and has a quick hook for Masterson by the fourth or fifth inning. It could happen but after what we've seen the past few games I will not hold my breath. Still, I wish you are right on this one.

Not much sleep and the teams routines are completely out of whack. I see the hitters being a little off today. I am not thinking the over is a great bet. Where's iortiz? I like his track record.

Or Masterson pulls a game like the one against Philly out of his ass. You never know.

Mookie is one of the most exciting players in the league, he is always making big plays to get the team going. I don't know how he is hitting under .200 due to me not being able to watch many games this year, hit I assume it's mostly bad luck?

yes he hits into a lot of bad luck. Someone with his linedrive rates and hits to all field should not have a .200 average
