I have some new mojo: Pedey shirt mojo. I wore it to school today. Too bad I can't wear it everyday to school.

I can promise you that some of my GTs this year will lead to wins. Trust me, I have it all planned out.

If you create a single Red Sox gamethread this season, I am going to have you drawn and quartered by four Clydesdales and then I'm going to ban the pieces.

Oh yeah? well I had Pedroia Jersey, Ueahara shirt, 2013 WS Champs hat and Napoli beard mojo today, so there's that.

So we have to wait two days for another Sox game... God the start of the season is always such a cock tease. Edited by RedSoxNC84

Pal says its okay. It was our bet at first, and when I lost, everyone got on top of me like I was a girl standing outside an all boys Catholic school.

Pal doesn't have the ability to ban you and every one of your descendants for the next hundred generations from this site. NO GAMETHREADS KIDDO. This is a friendly suggestion from your benevolent despot.

I will rescind this at any point after the All-Star break at which the Red Sox are twenty or more games over .500. At that point you won't be able to harm the natural progression of things.

I know it's only one game, but dang, that felt good!

Pedroia definitely looks like he's back, and what more could we have asked for from Buchholz.

Let's hope he can carry his good mojo all season long.

Even broken Mojo is right twice a year. Let's play two!

I know whose side to be on.

Keep it going!

Papi is close to the Golden Sombrero.

Facing a lefty today I thought maybe Farrell would play Napoli and sit Ortiz but deep down I knew there was no way we could sit Papi on Opening Day. My resentment is for the National League with their myopic adherence to the past. Right, we go to the ballgame to see the pitchers hit. If baseball ever develops standard rules, the NL has to give ground on the DH.

Not to hurt my own argument here, but I'm afraid that might bring about a 2011-esque collapse.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but you win.

Just think how much more comfortable and enjoyable will that extra day be compared to what it would feel if we had gone down today. Right?

I think when the time comes, we'll put it to a vote.

All I ask for is some of the games in the dog days, when we will either be way ahead or way behind.

I'll vouch for you. My mojo has enough clout here that it could probably swing the vote. If YOTN allows it of course, we all know he's a despot prone to Putin-esque covert political assassination.

Hey, I told you before, I don't know anything about those incidents, that polonium poisoning was a complete accident.

Red Sox Sign Rick Porcello To Four-Year Extension

By Steve Adams [April 6, 2015 at 6:42pm CDT]

The Red Sox announced that they’ve signed right-hander Rick Porcello to a four-year contract extension that covers the 2016-19 seasons. Porcello is a client of Excel Sports Management’s Jim Murray. Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports (on Twitter) that Porcello will be guaranteed a sizable $82.5MM over the four years. Per Speier, Porcello receives a $500K signing bonus before earning $20MM in 2016 and 2017 then $21MM in 2018 and 2019. Porcello was already slated to earn $12.5MM this season after avoiding arbitration this winter.

For the 26-year-old Porcello, there’s certainly risk involved in taking a long-term deal at this juncture, as he was set to hit the open market just six months from now at the age of 27. However, while he’d have had a chance at a lengthier deal, the $20MM+ annual salary is likely one that few would have foreseen a year ago, when the former first-round pick entered the season with a career 4.51 ERA and a career-high of 182 innings.

Last year’s excellent performance turned Porcello’s fortunes, however, as he worked to a career-best 3.43 ERA in a new career-high 204 2/3 innings. Porcello averaged 5.7 K/9, 1.8 BB/9 and posted a 49 percent ground-ball rate in 2014 — a significant step forward for a pitcher that many have believed to have untapped potential prior to last year’s breakout. Porcello will surrender his first four free agent seasons by signing this deal, but he’ll retain the right to hit the open market again at the age of 30, setting him up for another significant contract.

From the Red Sox’ perspective, the deal provides them with additional certainty in their rotation in the long-term. They’ll now have Porcello under control through 2019, Wade Miley and Joe Kelly under team control through 2018, and Clay Buchholz under team control through the 2017 season.

I'd say it's more Stalin-esque than Putin-esque.

I don't know if this is a good deal, but it is exactly the philosophy that the organization believes in. Signing a #2/3 pitcher for his age 26-30 seasons makes a lot of sense. It also gives Ben one less thing to worry about next offseason.
