That's a pretty typical post mortem comment though. It's pretty rare that players pile on a guy who just got fired unless there was some serious hate.
And the typical post mortem from the FO is that the pitching coach was having trouble getting through to the pitchers. They don't admit to scapegoating. Which post mortem story do you believe?

There isn't enough information to draw a conclusion, but there is plenty of information on which to form an opinion. I don't think anyone thinks it is a pure PR move. Scapegoating is not usually done just for PR purposes. It is usualy done to send a message to those who remain behind that they could be next. It is meant to be motivational, but I think it is a very poor motivational technique.

You could be right about all of this. I guess we'll just have to see if things turn around for the better at all.

It doesn't matter who started it, you and iortiz certainly are okay with continuing it.

It's really that simple. If they don't respond to each other, it can't continue. Pal, I've been saying you should be a mod for years. I still stand by that, you know what's up. I think you'd make a great mod.

I have two of the jackholes on ignore. Read the thread. I almost never respond to their attacks, because I can't see them unless quoted. So, you are wrong in your assessment of me continuing this. They started it and have continued it, but I will not be bullied. If you want to side with the clearly aggressive bullies, that's your decision.

You do make a valid point on not taking insults. It's a two way street though. They insult you because you insult them. If you can't take it, don't throw insults at them and you're good. However, being bullied? It's the internet. Close the browser and you can't be bullied lol. I've never heard of cyber bullying haha.

Btw a700, not picking sides here. I think all of you are wrong and immature. I would just like to talk baseball and not have any good posters being banned. You all contribute to talksox in some way. I would hate to see you all banned because you're acting like 2 year olds.

Let them close their browser. I am not going to be chased off by a couple of posters with hate and anger issues.

Why don't you call your buddy UN to task on the fact that he still comes after me even though I block him and don't engage him. Seriously, he forces the issue.

back to topic. Porcello pitches today. If he makes another solid start he could be for the first time under 4 this season, what are the odds?

Pretty good.

The A's have hit about as well as the Sox, so far.

Porcello has an OPS against the current A's lineup around 692, on the other hand Kazmir around 660 in the last 2 years. Should be a close/low Rs game. I wouldn't bet in this game.

I have heard that it is almost a certainty that the A's will move Kazmir. He has been pretty solid the last couple of seasons. He has a lot of experience and he is still only 31 years old. Do you think he might be a good fit for us?

I'm very interested in big pitchers who don't have big names. Maybe the price won't be too crazy. He's had some excellent seasons sandwhiched around a couple of terrible/injury plagued ones.

I like Kazmir. He has a great K/9, and is capable to post WARs above 3+ and ERAs around 3.5. After his stay in LAA he has settled down in OAK; sure, he is not what he used to be TB anymore but IMO he could keep his numbers and be a solid No. 2-3 in Boston in the next 2 years.

Kazmir completely fell apart but seems to have gotten it back together. I wonder how close he is to falling apart again, though.

He put a lot of innings on his arm starting at a very early age. He suffered some injuries and looked like he was done, but he has had a rebirth. He is still pretty young. They would have to give him a thorough medical exam to determine the condition of his arm. Edited by a700hitter

I'm not sure Shaughnessy was alive when I started following the Sox. For me it's generational - Grandfather-Mother-Me

It's generational for me too. I do not go back as far as some of you guys do, but I've had my fair share of heartbreak. My father reminds me often about how great a time this is to be a Red Sox fan. Things could be a lot worse.

He should play for the Diamondbacks. Phoenix? Never mind.

I did not love every second of it, but largely yes ...

1. There is little evidence that the pitchers acquired were going to be 2014 Kershaw. There is even less evidence that they were going to be terrible.

2. There were only a couple of pitchers in the FA class who were going to move the needle and one of them was a guy we let go. (I did not love this)

3. The failures in 2014 were offensive - not exclusively of course but if you sliced the blame pie, the largest slice by far was for the lineup - they proactively addressed this. (and to be fair, those actions have largely been good so far)

4. The trade market was not going to open up in the offseason - nobody is bleeding money, and because of the 2nd wild card spot - almost every team can/has to sell postseason possibility to its fans and benefactors. The trade the Sox want was going to have to wait - the key is to be around long enough to do so.

Frankly coming into this season the expectation (not hope) was that the rotation could consistently spit out starts like Buchholz had yesterday. Not amazing, not horrendous - but don't screw up the offense's work and hand it over to the bullpen.

The problem has been the former has not been good enough to withstand crappy starts nor good enough to carry "okay" ones. That has to change - and given some of the BABIPs, that is a strong bet. And, as shaky as this stretch has been ... the larger thesis of "hanging in" still holds.

Well said SK. You really need to post more.

That was another case of a pitching coach helping reinvent him a little bit when Cleveland got a hold of him.

Who has Cleveland had for pitching coaches ? It seems like they churn out aces... Sabathia, cliff lee, Kluber and maybe Salazar.

Our new pitching coach was one of them.

In Kazmir's case, it is the one is Mickey Callaway who was hired for Tito's staff. They also turned around Ubaldo Jimenez (enough for him to get a handsome salary from the O's) http://wahoosonfirst.com/2014/03/12/mickey-callaway-providing-value-bargain-cleveland-Guardians/.

He was their minor league pitching coordinator before the major league job. So a similar-ish path to Farrell (who came from director of player development).

I completely forgot both Ubaldo and Kazmir turned their careers around in Cleveland. What an organization for pitching, it has always been a shame that they can't ever pay to keep those arms.

I had little hopes in Masterson, unfortunately He is done. He has to go to the pen or something. We do not need to wait until June to figure it out. He is killing this team.

Did they see him throw in the off season? I don't know what made them think he would rediscover the lost velocity.
