I keep hearing that Cespedes is being dealt for Matt Latos. Don't know how true it is but I would like that.

 

Latos is criminally underrated because he's yet to really break through like it's been expected of him. But he's a big boy with big-boy stuff. I would really like to see him ply his trade in Boston.

Ben has been shopping Cespedes for pitching all season, and the Reds like him. Latos only has a year left as well, so I would imagine it would be Cespedes, and maybe a pitching prospect thrown in to offset the difference in qualifying offers.

For next season? About the same. Latos was hurt last year but the previous 3 years he was basically a 200 IP SP.

 

I'd also think Latos being 4 years younger may be the better bet when considering 6-7 year contract offers.

Well, a 200 M offer right now to Scherzer, makes more sense than that 70 M offer to Lester few months ago.

I think take it or leave it offers don't work unless you are massively overpaying.

He had an absolutely terrible 2014, but so did Masterson. He's a groundball pitcher, usually gets you innings, and probably won't cost any talent, just money. He's not a top of the rotation guy, but he might be cheaper than some of the other backend options.
