If you win 70% of your games, you'll wind up with 113 wins.

Jesus H Christ-----we are talking about the 8-6 games and not the whole damn season. Where the hell is your comprehension? You made the same type of blunder yesterday so please get your s*** together. If there are about 35-40 games that are high scoring like that the result is not 113 wins. Are you sure you haven't been celebrating New Year's a little prematurely? Sober up.

My brain just exploded trying to comprehend what you are trying to say here.

Monkey see, monkey do....is that it? If you couldn't digest what I posted perhaps you need a brain transplant or an anal one. We're talking about perhaps 30-40 such games, not 162. Now you know what I was saying---or are you still in brain explosion mode?

I guess we're in good shape then!

We're not talking about 162 games----just the 35-40 that could be determined by scores like 8-6 and 9-7, and you never win a title of any kind with that kind of pitching ineffectiveness. The whole idea was to get an ace, and sad to say, if there are those on this board who think we can get by with what we have and get to the World Series, sorry, you need more bran in their diet. I will concede we could win the AL East with the team as presently constructed but that would also be predicated on keeping our key players healthy----and we do have a few who have proven to be very brittle of late and some who are still question marks. An ace would help a helluva lot there...AND WE NEED ONE.

Liking your style. I just needed to settle in. Initially I thought that maybe some of your posts were a bit too cryptic - not anymore. I am afraid the stat geeks don't get it. Could it be Fred that they never played nor coached the game. It is a lot like any game . You can't measure the "feel" factor. Stats and technological theory all help but they sure as hell don't tell the whole story. You sound like a good man. I will give you 2 shots a side. Come East and we will play.

A direct attack wouldn't you say. Help me with this if I am wrong. Very unfriendly! Did Fred disagree with you?

This one you should put on ignore. The baseball content of his posts is outweighed by the nastiness.

You are helping me. I really appreciate that. A person like him, really does bring out the worst in me. For the time being 700 I won't ignore him because i have dealt with many fools in my years of teaching. I can deal with him. I just want to talk about the Sox. People always agree and disagree but times have changed. Technology provides an element of protection that we have never seen. Years ago many of these voices would have never been heard. thanks again.

fred is from a different generation.

a good one by the way. People might not like what he says always but he will explain himself clearly. I am guessing that he would look me or you anyone right in the mug and tell them how he feels. I could have played for him. I played for people like him. They taught me a great deal.

Fred knows a lot about the game. His coaching experience allows him to pickup on things that others without his experience do not pick up. If he thinks a guy is done or not up to a task, I take his opinion very seriously. He can be an emotional fan and when he spews his disfavor about a player or the manager he can use some funny expressions and nicknames. He doesn't hide behind a keyboard. He and I have had a few phone conversations about the Sox. Others may be surprised on this board that Fred and I don't agree about every player, but our conversations are always friendly and entertaining. You strike me as being made of the same stuff.

fred, your post was ********, and you got called out on it. It is what it is.

Please go to the bathroom and unload Useless because you are totally full of s***. For you to actually agree that I meant 162 games of 8-6 scores tells me you know less than s*** over shinola. I think even mvp knows now what I meant. You're problem is you cannot be open minded even when an adversary of yours is right---but that's ok with me because many of the new posters have you tagged as an irritating dork who never played the game, never coached he game and I wonder if you can even run a lap or two without caving in and reaching for a Bud. In other words, you're pathetic......and what about your putting me on ignore as you told others. Just another example why your diet is so lacking in bran.

700, CP, iortiz and the rest of my friends here I wish all of you a very Happy New Year. Enjoy the football games tomorrow, and just remember this......we all love the Red Sox with all our hearts but we're independent enough to call out things that seem to be bogus to their well being. Some here don't have that talent.

My wife told me to give you guys a break because you are so very old. Happy New Years.

A sensible woman there mvp. Happy New Year to all!

Happy New Year to all, Fred and I have been discussing baseball on various boards since 2004. While we may not always see eye to eye his baseball judgment and eye for young talent is second to none. BTW I have had that "user" person on ignore for two years because I came to the conclusion nothing he posts is ever worth reading.

Good to know. I agree with you about Fred. He is a baseball man. A Red Sox guy all the way.

Typical Talksox.

This is what happens after a slow baseball news week in a long off season after coming in last place. All in all, after the disaster of 2014, the acrimony here has been surprisingly mild.

The acrimony is surprisingly mild? I just logged on. The first two threads have been loaded with it.

I don't understand how this all started since I was not on the board when the "villain" did something to piss you all off.

Oh well. It's talksox.

I have seen it much worse it in post-seasons gone by. The villain can't do anything to piss me off. I have him on ignore. The targets of his invective would be well advised to do the same.

Kudos to your wife mvp. Wish her a very Happy New Year from your "pal" here. And the same goes for you. Enjoy the year and hopefully at least a Red Sox AL East Title.

The irony is palpable.

Also, if you're all so butthurt because i called you out on your annoying circle-jerk, you're welcome to keep whining like little bitches while i laugh my ass off.

Now you go after my pal Elk? He's forgotten more baseball than you will ever know. How many more posters are going to put you on ignore before you're talking only to yourself and the few remaining posters can tolerate you know-it-all ********? Pathetic doesn't even begin how sad and sorry a person you've become.

I count 3, maybe 4 total at most.

What's your point? You do not speak for the entire board, Fred.

I thought that you said that you would not continue to engage in all this crap. Why not just drop it? It's boring.

I think we need to agree to accept the fact that most of us are Red Sox fans. We have differing opinions, and that is what makes a forum work. If everyone has the same opinion, then there is no meaningful discussion. I enjoy greatly Fred's rants but usually agree with User Name. I happily consider them both friends.

Baseball is a passionate sport...especially Red Sox baseball. When I graduated from college in the 1970s, I moved to Portland, Maine, and took a job at a publishing company. I would regularly stop into a store on Congress Street before work for a cup of coffee and a Table Talk pie. The crowd there would usually be discussing Red Sox baseball. Some of the crowd included Yankee fans. This was before the internet and baseball forums. The discussions would almost always get very heated, but we all recognized our mutual need to express our baseball opinions. We all accepted and respected our differences.

I hope we all can continue to discuss and respect each other here. If we all have to agree, the discussions will become boring.
