I have to admit that I am looking forward to it more so than in some past years. There seems to be a great deal of intrigue here. A ton of questions that need to be answered. I still think that the Sox are holding some strong cards and that there will still be some significant moves made as we go along. Thank you and I hope that you enjoy the season as well.

I'm chomping at the bit myself CP and Prune Face, and for the life of me I just cannot see us having two train wreck years in a row. We have some real question marks but so do all four of the teams in our division. It should make for an interesting season and I for one have had all the football and basketball I can stand. Bring on baseball. As to you Pruney, you made a very salient point. There are a lot of fans who live in a city with a ML baseball team, some with two, but many of those fans do not root for either of them and I am one of those types. I think in places like Boston there seem to be very few who are not followers of the Sox, but out here in LA the press acts like the whole population are Dodger fans. They may be in the majority but they are not the whole population. We have a very sizable minority of fans who like neither the Angels or the Dodgers.

One thing I have noticed is that there are many Yankee fans around my area. This is probably because of my proximity to NYC and all of the college kids that migrate to the Boston area from the New York area. And of course some people are just plain idiots.

There are a bunch of old timers that still follow the Football Giants because for many years they were the only team anywhere near Boston.

HEY - I am a lifelong Giants fan. Some might consider me old(er) but I am no old timer.

I meant no insult in the usage of that word. It describes me and many of my friends.

Do you remember Ray Wietecha?

His Son is one of my closest friends.

If the internet had existed earlier as well as forum boards such as this, I doubt seriously that the loyal fan base of lovable losers would have existed quite so quietly as they appear to have. We didn't have a choice. None of us enjoyed going into a season hoping for anything better than a last place finish in the league. But - it was baseball- we loved the game -did not have these types of outlets. With the payroll the current team operates with and the farm system that many suggest is outstanding, there is really 0 reason why we shouldn't expect this team to compete aggressively each year. Call it what you like - entitlement - acting like a Yankee fan or whatever, "on paper" they should produce. This will be an interesting year. Jobs are on the line at every level. Too many question marks for there not to be. They are taking some risks which quite often can be good but if they don't work out a pic I am sure will be payed.

Expecting this team to be competitive each year is one thing. Having a team that is competitive each year and still not being happy with what the FO has done is another. Before we won the WS in 2004, the fans that I knew did not behave like this. I haven't suffered through as much heartbreak as some of you, but even so, I know that these are great times for Red Sox fans. My dad reminds me of that whenever I show any hint of wanting to mope because things are not going well with the team. We have been very fortunate in recent years, with another competitive team for the 2015 season. It's all good. :)

Well I take it Spud that you don't live in the Boston area----Connecticut maybe or Western Mass? Besides, those college kids are migrants and temporary "citizens". Chances are if they stay around Boston and settle there they might get a rude awakening when their kids grow up and become Red Sox fans instead of Yankee ones. I run into quite a few people out here in So. Cal that went to colleges in the Boston area and now most of them are Red Sox fans. Yes my friend, there are more Sox fans in my neck of the woods that you might think.

Wietecha? The center on the 1956 NFL Champions. I remember that team. I took them with me when we moved to California in 1954 and followed them for a few years before I became totally Californiaized.

Spud, it's because Rhode Islanders are the worst. Providence wishes it was closer to NYC than Boston.

Once again - It literally is a whole different ballgame than it used to be. I think that this forum is actually just a small sample of the typical Red Sox fan. But, that being said, I really do think that the Red Sox fans that I have known, have never been particularly kind in either word or thought when the Sox haven't played well. Whether you or I like it or not, it is a way of life in New England. The true fan of this team feels a sense of ownership that we certainly don't have any right to feel but that is the way it goes. Personally I am very excited for the season to start but if things fall apart for whatever reason, I don't think that it will set well with Sox fans. We live in an environment that can be kind of harsh for a good part of the year - tends to darken ones thoughts. I think that most of us try to remain positive but it just doesn't always work out that way. I am a fan and will support them all the way but I can only speak for myself. The average guy or gal off the street is going to see a team that has spent the second highest amount of money spent by any team in the majors and still heads into the spring with what could to some appear to be muddled mess. Admittedly many of the issues this team has are good ones to have and many will work themselves out but I think the average fan might tend to be a little less positive about it than that. It certainly should be entertaining!

No Fred I live about 15 minutes north of Providence R.I. in lovely North Attleboro, Ma.

About 40 miles south west of Fenway Park. I grew up in Newton. That is how I went to so may Sox games as a young person.

The Yankees are globally pervasive. Travel in Europe a bit and the most poplar non-European hat is a Yankees hat. Of course when I see them I always confront them.

RI the state is very nice. The drivers and sports team affiliations are horrible though. My cousin who grew up in Cumberland likes whatever team Nick Swisher is on. I don't know what went wrong withher.

Best things about RI: Newport Cremery, the food, Dells, the big blue bug, TF Green, the PawSox, Daves, Thayer St, Torchbearer Tattoo Shop, and it's a nice buffer between us and the CT state police who derive all their income from speed traps.

Also, Bennys!

I raise a glass of Gansett Coffeee Milk Stout to you, RI!

Can't forget Bennys!!!!

And of course "Hot Wienahs".

I like to eat three all the way with a cuafee cabinet. At Kips.

When things haven't gone well, Sox fans have often been miserable, disappointed, and/or heartbroken. But I don't think that's the same thing as the sense of entitlement that I see from some fans. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

If the Sox don't play well this year, I am not going to be happy. I take the losses as hard as anyone. Too often, I can't sleep after a tough loss. That said, if things start going south, I'm not going to constantly bash the team or the FO.

That's very surprising to hear Spud. I thought Rhode Island was hard core Red Sox country being a New England state not touching New York as Conn and West. Mass do. Thanks for enlightening me.

I believe that R.I is predominantly for the Sox.

But around here there are many Yankee hats and flags.

I am in Providence at this time. The people I am around for the most part are some of the most ardent fans of all Boston sports teams that I have ever seen.
