Wow. Can't wait to see the NY Post coverage. I guess George King III will have to retract his statement that the Mariners were just blowing smoke.

The surge from the Ellsbury signing died quick. The Yankees just lost their best player -- a guy who is arguably top 5 in the majors. They'll be happy about it 3-4 years from now, but losing a #3/4 type hitter at a premium position will hurt big time.

Cano got paid, can't fault him for that. The Yankees learned their lesson with ARod. 10 yr deals for 30+ yr olds is stupid. Save the cash for when Trout is a FA

That's 4 years from now.

Also, the Yankee's are not much improved at this point from last year

I know 10 years at 240 is alot but if I'm the Yankee's I would of signed Cano at that amount rather than signing Ells.

The only thing is that Ells will bat 3rd next year and hit 25 HR's with 100+ RBI just to prove something. I hope not but my gut says he has a very productive year.

LOL, Ells will not put up Cano numbers offensively

Well the Yankees may have improved with the combo of Ells and McCann vs. the loss of Cano but the real issue with NY is pitching. If Tanaka is not acquired they will need to sign the top 2 FA SP's to have a chance of competing. I hope that they have to over pay for those acquisitions as well.

Very surprised. Lot of money though. Question -if Cano played his whole career with the Mariners and put up the same numbers would people consider him to be the star many consider him now?

I would rather have Pedroia on my team anyway

Granderson to the Mets.

The Yankees just lost two middle-of-the-order bats in the matter of an hour.

LOL! great news

Now they'll get desperate and go overpay someone else

Hey, let's go for the hat trick and get official word that Tanaka won't be posted. :D

Drew to the Yankees next to play 2B?

"Star" is a completely subjective term... not much gets accomplished debating semantics like that.

Who plays short?

If Yankees are as baseball savvy as they are getting credit for by showing restraint with Cano... they move Jeter to full time DH.

This was a win/win for us - either the Yankees lose Cano, or they sign him to a really long dumb deal like this. Kinda would have preferred them to saddle themselves with another albatross contract. Oh well.

Yankee's are giving Ells 21.5 Mil a year for most likely 8 Years and did not want to give Cano 24 a year?

Pretty stupid if you ask me. Cano is durable, never injured and will outperform Ellsbury. I'm loving this.

"Hey, anyone remember Robinson Cano?"

In 3 years. Have fun rotting in Seattle buddy.

Lol this is go great. Yankees blow their wad on Ellsbury, they don't sign their MVP, and then their MVP promptly bolts to Seattle where he'll probably vanish. AND they lose Granderson. Glorious.

I agree it's great. I don't think Cano will necessarily vanish there. The M's have had some superstars over the years.
