It is fun to think about Cano in a lineup with Pedroia and Ortiz. I don't know why that would get anyone angry. It is a pipe dream, but it is fun to think about.

Uffff having Cano in the team would be really, really awesome. Vic-Ped-Cano-Ortiz, arguably the best offensive heart in baseball.

Exactly, it's a pipe dream. Why do we constantly bring up something that won't happen? If we're going to have fun imagining players we'll never get, allow me to clutter threads with some nonsense. Lets get Miggy, Kershaw, Verlander, King Felix, etc!
We did discuss King Felix for 2 or 3 off seasons. What is the harm? I don't know why you are getting so worked up. Most of the trade rumors never come to fruition. Internet clutter is a big problem? 90% of the internet is unnecessary clutter. Your team won a championship. You saw the Sox beat the Skanks at Fenway. How can Hot Stove blather bother you so much? I am still smiling ear to ear.

I remember the Stanton discussion as well. Not sure but I believe that SFF still see his ass in Sox uniform LOL!

King Felix coming to Boston was a bit more realistic in my opinion. At least multiple posters were throwing the idea out. Winning the championship and seeing the Yankees lose at Fenway has nothing to do with any of this. I am still happy with the team we have. It's just annoying when you have one poster try to go out of his way for something that won't happen. If you guys want to build your own team for "fun" go ahead. It's like reading a Dojji thread hyping up a nobody prospect.

Maybe if you pulled your head out of the sand and pay attention to what is going on with Cano to begin with you will realize that there is an opportunity for the Sox to sign Cano. Do not be upset for not thinking about this option yourself. Take a deep breath and stop telling people what they can and cannot discuss on this thread.

.....and still more likely than Cano in a Sox uniform.

You are right ... the probability of Cano signing with the Yankees is probably 70%. However 70% is not 100% and the Sox are a big market team that have the money to sign him.

There really isn't. That's a pipe dream. Lucchino has pretty much confirmed the Sox aren't doling out any more super-long term contracts. This is conjecture on your part. Interesting discussion, but pretty much impossible unless Cano literally fell on the Sox' lap. @mark.

It's not big deal to me the discussion about Cano... Our Offseason is goddamn boring anyway.

Did anyone think that the Angels were doing to sign Hamilton last off season? That signing caught a lot of baseball people off guard. When I say baseball people I am not talking about us fans on this forum either.

Well UN ... we have been over this before ... We all know jack s*** compared with the FO. But you agree that it is an interesting discussion and that is the entire point of having this forum to begin with ... is it not?

Do not forget Bogaerts, WMB/Cecchini, Nava,

OK, now let's move on to a discussion of a blockbuster trade with the Reds for Votto.

It's a nice thought .... the problem there however is that we have to give up our top prospects ... not so with Cano.

Nava/WMB/Carp/Lackey/Dempster for Votto! If you add up all the WAR, the Reds couldn't say no to that!!!

But we can listen and interpret what the FO is saying, and they're saying they're not signing these big contracts anymore. Interesting discussion though.

I think that Boston should step in and sign Cano ... 200M/8 25M per. We can play him at 1B ... or move Cano or Pedroia to 3B. Cano might not mind playing 1B. Imagine an infield of Cano, Pedoria, Bogaerts, WMB, Hanigan/Vasquez ... all together for the next 8 years.

You know Mark, at first when I read your post I was saying this is t he most ridiculous thing I've read so far, but you know what? The more I thought of it the more I got to like it. I know it will never happen since Cano is not a fit for us, but with a little, no a lot of, maneuvering it just might have worked. I do seem to remember this.....Cano always has hit like hell at Fenway Park and I believe his average against us there is better than the way he's hit us at YS. Either way he is a terrific offensive player, but he would never consent to play first base so as tempting as your suggestion is I doubt Ben would even give it any thought. Nice idea, though.

Would that not be the best signing in the past 20 years or what? It would absolutely kill each and every Yankee fan.

Well it would go a long way to make up for what the Yankees did to us with respect to Johnny Damon and Mark Teixiera. And, yes, those arrogant Yankee fans would be crapping in their drawers for the next half-dozen years. It would be a real hoot to pull something like that off, but we both know Ben would never go for it and neither would Cano.

No s***, it makes the team better. That's not the issue. You keep throwing this idea out like it's realistic. Cano will not be in a Sox uniform, you want to make a sig and avatar bet?

That's what this board is doing now RSFFL; it's brainstorming, throwing out ideas one after another and see where it goes. We know this isn't going anywhere but it does make for good conversation----and whether the Yanks finished second or fourth or whatever, every Red Sox fan likes to stick it to them. I find Mark's idea a little far fetched because it will never happen but fun to contemplate what would happen if it did. Besides, tempers have been a little hot of late around here. A few guffaws and rolled eyes would be therapeutic right about now.

Besides my friend, some posters here have gotten battle fatigue about me droning on and on about signing Mike Napoli and this stuff about Cano is some much needed comic relief in my mind. Besides, no one is getting insulted or hurt over it. And you said it yourself. This offseason has been one goddamn bore anyway and we're all looking for something to whet our whistles over. There's no harm being done.

Please Mark, don't mention Josh Hamilton....PLEASE!!!!!!! I was one of the few here who were calling on us to sign him last winter and I have been embarrassed about it ever since. As for the Angels, they had better hope that the JH of 2014 is a helluva better ensemble than the one this year or owner Artie Moreno may wind up jumping off the Matterhorn at Disneyland.

Yes they could......in about a millisecond. Another pleasant pipe dream suggestion. We seem to be full of them today. I'll try to come up one of my own.

Very Funny UN .... Very Funny!

Well I felt I was on a hot streak......well some kind of streak. And today the dialogue was much more friendly and collegial than in the past few days, and imagination or some off the wall suggestions don't hurt us at all. Just the same, how much longer are you going to hit on the Cano to the Red Sox caper?

You do realize that Votto signed a contract that pays him 20M per for 40 years.

The Cano to the Red Sox caper does not end until UN tells me that I am a brilliant for coming up with it.

Money aside, i'd like to see Cano, Choo, Napoli and Ellsbury in the Sox lineup next season. Unfortunately, money does matter.

Are you going to be this way with Napoli too. Are you going to be upset when Napoli provides a value of 15M on his 45M 3 yr. contract? Do you think that Cano can provide value from ages 31-35 ... his first five years? Anyway its been settled ... Sox will offer Cano a 200M/8 contract and leave it up to the Yankees to meet or better it. If Cano falls the the Sox we will be forced to find a way to make it work even if we have to move Pedey to 1B ... Pedey would play with lifts in his shoes if it was best for the team.
