Drew isn't coming back. The sox don't want to go over the threshold and the Mets apparently have an offer out there for 2 yrs. Boras will likely work this to the final day, but he'll end up taking the money

The Red Sox aren't making Drew a $8 million a year bench player. They sign Drew if they have no faith in Bogaerts ability to play SS.

If they did they would be continuing a Drew family tradition: being paid $8 million to sit on the bench for the Red Sox. JD did that during the last half of... 2011 was it? I can't remember off the top of my head.

The Red Sox gave JD Drew 5/70 with the expectation that he'd be the starting RF, so no. Not at all similar.

More of a joke on my part. I know he got "hurt" in like July then just didn't bother coming back.

Madson - minor league contract

Drew - $7-9 million multiyear contract.

Huge difference

Here it is just about Spring Training and this Stephen Drew saga just will not die. For God's sake will some team not named the Red Sox just give him some money and a couple of years so we can get this "stopgap" shortstop out of Boston once and for all? We have a shortstop, we have a third baseman, and he we have a decent utility infielder. Why the Mets can't pull the trigger on this guy befuddles me. Their shortstop is so pathetic he worse than a pound of s*** in a three pound bag.

The Mets are a mess. Drew is a perfect fit for them. Their other option is Ruben Tejeda who stinks.

You've told me this over and over Ted and, of course, you're right on the mark. What I cannot understand, fathom or digest is how the Mets can play in the biggest market in the world and not at least try to give the Yankees a semi-run for their money. We know the Mets have the majority of fans in Brooklyn and Queens so they have a good sized fan base to draw from but those fans are not going to lay down money to watch a pig of a team, and as we have all seen the standings in the various divisions can jumble one year to the next. The right chemistry for the Mets could see the challenge for a WC spot, at least make a go of it in the division.

On a more pleasant topic, I just signed up and got confirmed that I will be going to the Red Sox's Home Opening Series against the Brewers on April 4-6. I will fly out Thursday and head back home on Monday. I've done this opening series stuff fives times before and it is a terrific show they put on, not to mention that this April 4 they will hang down the 2013 WS Champion banner. We're the only team of the 30 in the Majors who will be doing that ----kind of what makes me want to be there. What are your plans? ST, Fenway?

Pumpsie hasn't attempted a comeback. This is one of the usual suspects-- a special breed of douche bag.

I was kidding. I don't think it's Dutchy/Imp...

Why are you being such a jerk, man? Play it cool! 'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright!

Listen bub, only my friends here can call me a jerk since sometimes I do act like one, but you're not one of my friends but most likely a troll. So cease and desist..."cause every little thing is not going to be all right if you persist. Now I have a question for you......who were you the last time you were on this board before you got your ass run off?

It's Pumpsie

Nah mvp, not Pumpsie. He's one of my closest friends on two other boards. We taken in a game together, broke bread and shared a ton of laughs. If he called me a jerk he would do with a smile and say who he was. The other guy, well you better at this since you've been here longer....could it be dutchy?

The Mets have not been the same since they got rocked by the Madoff scandal. They were very involved with Madoff, and i suspect that they took a big hit. I can't point to specific evidence, because there is always the cloak of secrecy when it comes to the finances of baseball teams. It is a fact that MLB had to step in to lend them money a couple of years back to help them meet payroll.

I will be in Boston on Opening weekend. We will have to arrange to meet.

Man, I'm just missing out here, aren't I? I'll be in town for Patriot's Day Weekend (it's become an annual tradition to go to the Sunday game, not the Monday game), and the following weekend for my brother's NU visit.

That would be great Ted. I'm going through Red Sox Destinations and they're putting the group in the Copley Marriott. I'm getting in Thursday, April 3 and leaving Monday evening on the 7th. One of us need to get the other on the phone.

You're not missing out at all. When you consider how young you are and how old I am you will have years and years to start doing what I started doing at 60---going to Fenway and rooting for the Red Sox. There will be plenty of time to get all that in.

I have stayed in the Copley Marriott several times. It is a very nice place. Red Sox Destinations goes first class. I will be there on Saturday and Sunday. I'll call you before hand to arrange a meeting place.

What do you mean? I've been to plenty of games over the years.

The Mets owner Wilpon is a friend of Selig and Madoff. He is one of the few who made money in the Madoff scandal. He was sued to pay back some of the money others had lost. He wound up paying less than was asked for, which helped him keep the Mets. He is fanatical about keeping majority ownership of the Mets. That's one of their problems. If it wasn't NY and his relationship with Selig, he would have be long gone as Mets owner by now. He should have been forced to sell the team just by his connection with Madoff. But Selig made his money selling used cars, and it does show. It is the great game itself that keeps Baseball going. The rest of it stinks with corruption from the vast amounts of money.

You have pretty much summed up the situation. Their hard core long time fans hate the ownership group and the hate Selig for helping them to keep the Mets.

I was talking about rjortiz. You know, the one that was being a jerk.... You guys are sensitive!

What are you talking about? You feel the need to whiteknight for another poster, and they are the sensitive ones?

Really encouraging article from Boston Globe. Apparently Felix Doubront was working out early in December, and then came back quickly after the holidays. Great to hear that he is welcoming the extra conditioning -- maybe this is the year he takes that step forward.
