It's called irony. You know the Sox won with Nava last night ... he was 0-4 at the plate but they won.

Perhaps the lesson for those that had not learned it is that "won X number of games with everyday player Z" is not a relevant stat....I am not even sure it is a stat period, relevant or otherwise.

Jung ... you still might have a hard time convincing MVP and John Farrell on that one. It's all good ... I am loving every game .... even our loses are crazy.

Guys and Gals ... Yes it is true that I felt that Nava should get more AB's against right handed pitching. No one in this universe except maybe for Gomes himself was as happy as I was to see him launch that ball over the left field wall. I was never every being critical of Games himself as I suspect that all the players are giving their best effort.

Jonny Games...possible nickname. Or Jonny Ballgomes?

I don't think Gomes should start every game. My only point is that bitching about a guy who hasn't been at fault for the teams losses seems silly. I don't care who starts as long as they win.

I like Gomes. I was ecstatic to see him hit that HR. i would have been just as happy if Nava (0 for last night) had hit it.

Horrible media people in Boston are calling him Jonny Gnome. It's terrible.

I'm with you MVP ... it's all good. Although we do not know each other when Gomes hit that blast I did think of you. Go Sox!!!

It's barely even relevant as a statistic in basketball, which a sing;e player can dominate and control a game a lot more than in baseball. But even then, the depth of the team is what matters most.

i.e., When Allen Iverson used to miss time, the 76ers went from pretty good to absolutely atrocious. However, when Derrick Rose missed last season, the Bulls went from really good to pretty damn good.

tl;dr - it's another of those dumb, made up "stats" that a lot of people swear by for some damn reason

Well, +/- stats in the NBA have significant value ... they aren't perfect (especially when you have a bad backup) ... but they have been mined quite a bit, especially when trying to truly measure defense.

But yeah, correlation != causation. Gomes has had the good fortune of playing on a lot of good teams - that is what his playoff streak means. Give his agent a cookie, maybe.
