Last night was a fluke. Anna Belle Sanchez will not do that again in G5, and for that matter, nobody will.

Buchholz vs Scherzer.

Red Sox are going to have an offensive explosion tonight, letting out a lot of frustration from last nights game.

It's simple. Win tonight. That's all. Just win.

Your farm system sucks, your team is old, and you missed the playoffs. Stop stating the obvious and coming off like you have something meaningful to contribute. Don't you have some uhaul boxes to unpack? Go away troll.

You go to Detroit down 2-0 and have to face Verlander twice more and you're done. Tonight is a must win for the sox
I will be gagging and nauseous if the Sox go down 2-0, because they will have put themselves in a huge hole, but this team has come up big all season long when things looked bleak. I will not count this group out unless they are officially eliminated.

Basically this. After the game against Seattle, the four-game series against the Yankees that they almost swept thanks to a WMB HR off of Rivera, the 20-4 win against the Tigers, and all the walkoffs, until the Tigers win four games I will still have confidence that the Sox can win the series. I expected this series to go 7 games anyways.

If it goes 7, you've got John Lackey against Justin Verlander. If the sox are gonna win this, they need to win this in 6. I know Scherzer and Sanchez had better seasons than Verlander, but we all know he is the guy you don't want to face in a must win

John Lackey career postseason ERA -- 3.35.

Verlander career postseason ERA -- 3.48.

Meh.

I'll take my chances. In a game 7 the Tiger advantage would not be Verlander. If they would have any advantage at all, it would be Leyland.

So having a guy who has been lights out in his last 2 postseasons and who has undeniably been the best pitcher in the AL over the last 5 years isn't an advantage over a guy who is coming off TJS and looked pretty shaky in his only postseason start thus far?

As you say, it isn't an advantage. Couldn't have said it better myself.

He's also a guy whose pitch count can be driven up to 100+ in 5 innings. I am not saying that he will not be tough, but Lackey has a history of being tough in big games.

I'd like to have faith in Buch tonight but he makes me nervous, especially against Scherzer. The sox offense are gonna have to step it up big time in this one.

Anna Belle Sanchez definitely had me laughing though.

Ignore troll whose team s*** the bed weeks ago butt still feels the need to troll us after every post season loss mojo in full effect.

Hmm, Interesting move benching Napoli. He usually does very well in the post season, but his bat has been very quiet thus far. I was expecting him to bust out soon. I would have dropped him in the order but not benched him. Ortiz will get nothing to hit with Carp hitting behind him.

To me this game tonight could be a do-or-die game. Let's face it, going to Detroit with a 0-2 deficit would be a hard thing to overcome. It's always possible we could go there and take two out of three but the odds would shrink if we were 0-2 when he got there. Even then we'd have to win two in a row back in Boston when the series moved there again. Somehow we have to get a win tonight in my opinion.

They f***ed themselves Fred, put the pressure on themselves. If they make it through the ALCS that would be awesome but I was only hoping for a more solid team after the Valentine bum squad. This season was awesome and they even won the division! Let's all take five and think about that.

Someone had pointed out that the Sox successfully fought back against adversity all season long. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn it on and win out but it's up to the baseball gods now.

Fenway & Lackey > Verlander

Why isn't Nava in? Because he proved he wasn't a team player with the sole hit last night??

I would have Nava in the starting lineup too. There maybe some statistical reasons for it.
