Sox haven't really played balls out since beating the yankees down. Good part is it doesn't really matter anymore.

Just need to turn it on in 2 weeks.

I'm sure they will. I think guys need a breather after such a long season. I would just like them to perform another slaughter or two before the end just to keep in fighting shape.

Its that break after the regular season ends that bothers me. Not only does it allow the WC winner to do a few things to set up his rotation but after playing almost every day for six months, four days off in a row is a bit much.....too much cool down time. Thanks again Uncle Bud.

f*** up baseball? The point of the second wildcard was to make the game more exciting for more teams down the stretch. How exciting are things now? Texas, Tampa, Cleveland, NYY, Kansas City and Baltimore are all still in the hunt. It is September 21st, and 9 of 15 teams are still very relevant.

No more exciting than they'd be with one wildcard. I doubt anyone outside of KC or Baltimore cares that those teams are still technically in the hunt. The NL sure as f*** isn't exciting. The Reds and Pirates should be fighting for one playoff spot, instead they're just jockeying for home field in that one playoff game where anything can happen.

So you're saying that the fact that the fans of about five extra teams still tuning in because their team has a chance at a second WC doesn't help the ratings?

Five extra teams? What?

What i'm trying to say is that even though the standings have closed on the first and second WC in both leagues, there was a point where a bunch of these teams were competing only for the second WC and then the Rays started choking like little bitches, and the playing field leveled.

Not long ago though, it looked like the only chance for Cleveland, New York, Baltimore, Kansas and Washington in the NL was the second Wild Card. That's exactly what they were trying to do with the second WC. Keep excitement high among fans of teams with a slim chance of making the playoffs without having to rely on a team not gaining a big lead in the WC race or choking at the end of it (like the Rays have conveniently done).

Yeah that would cheapen the playoffs and wouldn't work, it would probably end up turning people away. Also, logistical nightmare as far as scheduling one-game matchups.

I get the sarcasm. I'm just not amused by it. Michael from GTA V has desensitized me to it.

The addition of the second wild card was strictly for entertainment and profit purposes. On that level it has succeeded. It was never about enhancing competitive fairness. That was just the smokescreen Selig tried to use.
