Workman?

Workman in the pen I think would be a great idea. He may be outpitching himself right now, he's projected as a back of the rotation starter, at this moment he is better than what Dempster has given us, but how long can that keep up?

Dempster's been better than most of the offseason pitcher signings, and a passable mid-rotation starter. You also conveniently forgot to add the value of Victorino's D to the equation. Health has been his issue.

You were mostly wrong about everything you predicted about this team. Maybe man up and admit it instead of coming up with this sorta crap?

Mostly wrong about everything? Care to elaborate?

I was wrong about the Sox's ability to win. But I'm happy they've done so well this year. And I LOVE the Peavy acquisition.

I don't think anybody knew or thought they were going to be THIS good. I expected a train wreck of a season and I wasn't alone.

My opinions are still valid regarding Dempster and Victorino. Go look up what I said a few months ago. I'll give Cherington credit where it's due, and always do. I hate the 3-year Napoli contract, but loved it when they found that hip injury and reduced him to a 1-year deal. I still think it's great value.

I also supported last year's blockbuster. I just thought Cherington pissed away the free agent money (which I still think he did).

The FA signings could have been much worse. I for one would actually rather Vic for the money we got him at than Hamilton. We have enough K monsters in this lineup already. Not to mention Swisher.. Glad they passed on him.

Your opinion of Dempster is not valid. They expected him to be a mid-rotation starter (which is what he has been) and overpaid to reduce the contract's time. I wasn't crazy about the deal, but saw the logic behind it. Victorino's still a bit of a head-scratcher, but he's been decent.

As for the rest of your post, you made several threads and posts whining about how Cherington should be fired and how this team would end up in last place and had some pretty strong words for those who said they could at least compete. You were dead wrong, and they (including me) were right.

Theo was actually very stingy with the farm system too. I think that's where Cherington learned it from. There is a balance to be struck. But today's game (i.e. a game without PEDs) means teams have to be younger to compete since players really start to show their age around 33-35, except for Papi who is just a miracle and should be put forward for sainthood.

In all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me if Ortiz is using PEDs at this point in his career.

I'd have to somewhat agree with him about Gomes though. That contract was kinda stupid.

Not always that stingy, remember Adrian Gonzalez?

That was really the only time Theo pulled the trigger on a major deal involving top prospects. He consistently passed on blockbuster deals to hang onto prospects.

Obviously no one could have the foresight into how that contract would have worked out, but if that never happened, we'd have Rizzo instead of Napoli at 1st.

He isn't. The thing with Ortiz was that he [allegedly] used PEDs when he was fat and out of shape. But then he got pre-diabetes or whatever and got his a** in shape, and now he is crushing it. He kind of went in the reverse order of steroid era guys who roided as they got older, but were fit as kids.

Yet he's been the team's second-best hitter for almost a month now.......872 OPS over the last month, and an .868 OPS for the season with RISP. Don't get me wrong, they over paid, but it's not like he's a waste like Hamilton and some of the other overpriced FA busts (including Lord Snow favorite Nick Swisher)

Gonzo was his prize he finally got to unwrap. Unfortunately, his new toy sucked.

Yeah. You're right about that. I think there was a lot of backlash when the Sox missed out on Teixeira. Not only from the fans and the media, but also senior management. So I think the pressure was on Theo to make the Gonzalez trade. Which in hindsight really wasn't a bad one. He ended up being overpaid and never recovering from that shoulder, but he isn't a bad player to this day, we needed to dump him to jettison that Crawford contract.

I liked the Gomes signing, just not for the money they paid. It beats the huge overpriced FA contracts sure, and he has provided some good offense for the Sox. I didn't like the signing for the platoon aspect, and at that time none of us knew Nava would be what he is now, except Dojji of course.

oh, and DFA GOMES!

Haha. Last year's free agent class did kind of suck. I think Swisher will pan out, and I still like him more than Victorino since he has a recent track record of success.

Even Hamilton completely s****** the bed has been a shocker. Although I'm starting to think guys inked by the Angels are cursed. That or the pressure caused by big money deals kills talent... It's another reason I love Pedroia's new deal!

They are cursed. I drafted Pujols this year. Worst idea ever

We should have just resigned Beltre goddamnit.

He's a guy I'm convinced is using something. He had an odd way of having monster seasons in contract years, then sucking. And Arlington Stadium has had a huge impact on his numbers.

Could be, but I'd take him over Youkilis. I'd especially take him over Middlebrooks.

There has been lots of talk about Workman being bullpen bound.

Anybody else think it would be an okay experiment to send Dempster there? After all he was a closer at one point. And I'd kind of like to see how this Workman thing plays out. I'm very impressed for a guy with a mediocre scouting report.

I could go either way with that one. Dempster in the BP might make for a slightly better rotation. However I do think Workman may be pitching above his ceiling right now.

Could be the case. He does have a bit of an unorthodox delivery, maybe even slightly deceptive, and its giving hitters fits. Especially since there isn't really a major league scouting book on him yet because he only has a handful of innings under his belt. In short, his success could be short lived.

Now would be the time for that though, considering there would be only a handful of starts left for him.

I agree ... the Crawford contract made no sense what-so-ever. Ben did good didn't he?

Hated to see Iggy go, but I guess as stated he wasn't in the plans of the FO. Not overly impressed with Peavy, but I could see him helping us. Just mixed feelings all around. I'd have to say BC got the best deal he could for starting pitching of what was available.
