I'll keep beating this drum: Napoli is about to go on a tear.

See the thing is, he's very streaky. I will enjoy this tear he will go on, but when he slumps, it starts to get ugly. Hopefully talksox doesn't call for his head haha.

How about Workman? Maybe he's the starter we need? He pitched very well against one of the best offenses in the league.

Maybe User. In two starts he has given up only two runs in each game. That is very good. What is not very good is that we only got him two runs and no runs in exchange, though I don't think anyone could have beaten Moore tonight. Just as long as it's not Webster. The guy all the makings of an under-achieving heartbreaker. Great stuff but no clue of how to use it with the result that he getting the living s*** kicked out of him. Maybe he will come around, but I'm starting to doubt that, and, yes, I have very little faith in DLR who seems to be reverting to the stiff he was with the Dodgers. Let's see is Workman can keep this kind of pitching up. If he can maybe we finally hit pay dirt with one of our supposed pitching prospects. Yes, Workman has pitched well for us.

Moore is a great pitcher that pitched the his best game this year. However, if you think he pitched that well by accident you are dreaming. Madden pumps that team up something fierce to play the Sox. I'm sure he was pumping that team's tires all day long leading up to this game and will be pumping them up all day long leading up to tomorrow's game as well. The guy simply never leaves any stone unturned in an effort to gain a competitive edge. Unfortunately he usually finds pay dirt under those stones.

They seem to have found a starter in Workman. You never know about these kids. Sometimes they come out of nowhere. I'm having my doubts they will add another starter now that the Buchholz situation has been "resolved." But it'll be two weeks, maybe more, before he pitches again. And by that time they could be 5 games down. And what happens if he can't pitch? They are probably still throwing dice on this guy.

Another factor is they have no cap space to make a major move, unless injuries have changed the cap picture. No discussion of that in the media. They aren't going to go way over the cap to get a significant pitcher. More likely, they will settle for another minor reliever. Things will have to break right for them to come out on top with the pitching they have right now.

Probably at least 4-6 weeks for Buchholz. There's no chance he's back in 2 weeks since he hasn't thrown off a mound in a while.

I am thinking that he will throw on the side for the next 5 days then send him out on a rehab for 3 starts in 2 weeks. Hopefully, he will be back in 3 weeks. If this takes 6 weeks, we are talking about a Labor Day return.

Right now, we do not have a top 2 that can compare to Price and Moore. That rotation is built for the post season.

The Rays are filling me with gloom. After Price and Moore they have Cobb, Archer and Hellickson.

I think they may be emerging as the team to beat in all of baseball.

I was thinking about that myself this morning Jung and you are absolutely right. I remember so well how Madden used to make a monkey out of FrancoMa when the two teams played each other after the Rays became a contender. He never had to move his infielders when we got men on base because he knew that Coma kept his runners tightly roped to the bases and knew he would n ever move the runners. The result was no pressure on his fielders and a resulting double play usually came from Tito's one ridiculous base at a time mantra. He was also ahead of FrancoMa with hit and runs and sending his runners on us. As I said he made a monkey out of Terry. I have always said he cost us division titles in 2005, 2008 and 2009, and the AL Title in '08.

The tweets are quoting him this aft saying he thinks he should be back around the first of September. I don't see much of a change in his thinking after Andrews. Maybe they should trade him--he's a bit of a head case. There is criticism of him on the tweets.

Ellsbury has a "planned" day off tonite, according to Farrell. Seems strange so soon after the all-star break for an important series.

Farrell has already stated that there will be long toss sessions, side sessions, simulated games and rehab starts. That's at least 4 weeks there. Farrell's plan has him coming back around Sept 1st. This isn't some arbitrary Buch decision. He's been out 6 weeks. The rule of thumb is you rehab 1week for each week out.

And since the Sox have done admirably in his absence we're looking at September and the playoffs so we don't need to rush Buchholz back. Sure it might win us a few games in the short term but a simple setback later on can cost us the season. I think that at this point, barring an epic collapse like 2011, we should be in the playoffs.

Not saying it will happen but it won't take an epic collapse for the Sox to miss the post season. This has been in the works for years as the Western Division has continued to improve. Two teams will come out of that division, one out of the central and two out of the East. All the Sox need do is finish behind the Rays and O's and they will be out.

It's conceivable we could finish 3rd in the ALE and still get a wild card. But I agree that we don't have much of a margin for error. As of now we're a mere 4 games ahead of the last wild card spot.
