I wouldn't count him out of baseball just yet. MLB teams are so desperate for pitching they will try out anybody who ever did anything and who can still get it to the plate at 89 MPH.

Wow, they have just had one failed attempt after another filling the closer spot. Hopefully, they hit gold with Uehara for this season. Bailey was damaged goods before we got him. The fianl verdict on this trade goes to the A's. At least they got one good season out of Reddick. We got nothing out of Beetle Bailey.

Post shoulder surgery with his history???? i give him about a 10% chance of coming back and pitching in the ML's for more than half a season. More likely not at all after shoulder surgery. There is no shoulder version of TJ for the elbow.....it is just all luck...surely as much a matter of luck as back surgery is for us regular folk. Know anybody that has really come out of back surgery just ready to party?

He's done. We are more likely to see him pumping gas at a gas station than on a mound.

OK let's say we make a bet...if Bailey makes 10 MLB appearances by the end of 2016 I get $200. If he doesn't you get $100.

Where did you come up with 10 appearances. How about this one? If he pitches for a major league team to an entire season without going on the DL, I'll give you $200 and if not I get $100. The guy's career is toast. I hope that he saved his money.

Ha...now that would really be a foolish bet on my part.

How about this bet. I really don't care what happens to the guy if he never pitches for us again. How about I take your bet, but the 10 appearances have to be for the Red Sox?

The thing to remember about Bailey is that he is not Ueh. Ueh hides the ball behind him and slings it to home plate. On the one hand he does probably put a lotta' stress on his arm doing that but that is how he gets away with the 89 mph FB. Bailey does not do that. He has a flat doing nothing FB that the hitter sees all the way to home plate. 89 mph for Bailey is a train wreck waiting to happen. That is also why without secondary pitches, he is toast. That is what finally caught up to Bailey completely this year....he had to throw that nothing FB and hitters just killed it. Honestly I think this would have caught up to Bailey sooner if he had been pitching to any extent in recent seasons.

As I said earlier, I think Bailey has surgery. Just about no way around it. Recovery is like 1.5 years and then what? I would say he tries it if he is even capable of that for about six months without success or maybe sustaining yet another injury and that is the end of that. If it is with the Sox it is on a completely different deal...like virtually no money.

No, that'd be foolish on my part too. Anyway I was just trying to make a point, I don't really care that much either. I just think that the odds are that Bailey's name will show up in some MLB box scores again at some point. Like I said teams are just desperate for pitching and we can see why. The attrition is unbelievable.

How about we make the bet that he has to get 10 saves?

Who would of thought that the Sox problem this past off season of having two closers and not knowing who should be the closer, would turn into a problem to having your set up man become your closer. I for one am concerned about over using Uehara and him burning out before the end of the season. Remember in the beginning of the season there was the talk of not using him on back to back days. I also have not been impressed with Thornton in his first couple of outings. He has allowed runners on base when he enters to score that are charged to the pitcher he replaced. The Sox need another arm for their pen.
