He's had it since Opening Day, but he's played every single game and has performed at an MVP level at that. This just came out today.

By the way, Pedey's current slash line is .332/.422/.444. With a torn UCL.

He's got a 136 wRC+ and a .382 wOBA. Compare that to Cano's 132 wRC+ and .372 wOBA. And Pedroia is doing it with a torn UCL.

It's nothing short of amazing getting to watch this kid play on a daily basis. He's one of the few throwback players that even guys like a700 appreciates. Certainly a player that I will be telling my son about one day.

Was it from the sliding head first play? Extremely stupid.

Glad he is performing after a really slow start.

What??

His average has never dipped below .289, and his OBP has been under .390 for exactly 2 days, games 1 and 2 of the season.

Power numbers have been slow, but he's been a ridiculous player the entire season. He certainly did not have a slow start at all.

... especially not for a second freaking baseman. I think there are fewer good offensive 2B than SS right now.

His position and strong D just magnifies his offensive suggess.

He went the first 3 weeks with just 2XBH, that is certainly a slow start no matter how you slice it. His SLG was just around .300, quite awful out of a 3-hole hitter. He wasn't able to drive the ball with the injured thumb.

Doctors told Pedroia two key things: if he could play through the pain, he would not worsen the injury. You knew Pedroia would attempt to play, especially since there was no worry about causing further, long-term damage, and as the pain has not caused his production to suffer as it did last season, it seems like it was the right decision to make. The two concerns that should be ever-present with an injury are 1) will there be further damage? and 2) will production suffer due to the injury? -- two months in, it's safe to say that he's passed at least the second test, with doctors giving him the go-ahead on the one that's outside his realm of expertise.

If he can handle the pain and continues to hit lasers, there's no reason not to let him play. Usually a player needs 6-8 weeks to recover.

My apologies to jung who brought this up earlier in the season and I dismissed it.

I'm with you Bellhorn, scary scary stuff.

It's a 12 week injury post surgery. If it's torn, there isn't more damage that can be done. He'll probably have it operated on once the season ends. Imagine what he'd be doing if it wasn't torn?

I noticed early on in the season his glove work wasnt as sharp as it usually is. He didnt seem to field balls as cleanly but still made the out. I havent really noticed it as of late.

Probably the reason his HR numbers are where they are at. The Muddy Chicken continues to amaze.
