All three of those outs were not easy outs. We are hitting the ball today. Hopefully Revere's injury is not too serious. That looked painful.

No no. I'm merely talking about the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Lee. That's the last time he pitched against the Sox (iirc) and he didn't fare well at all.

For once. I remember Beckett kicked ass and almost had a bomb in that game as well. This was back when some of us, me chief among them, still harbored beliefs that the 2012 Red Sox were going to be anything other than terrible.

I see BTR posting about how we handled Lee once last year even though he has historically stuck it to the Sox so bad that Red Sox teams from the 30's can feel it.

This may be memory bias again, but (speaking more broadly than just Cliff Lee) I seem to remember us handling aces pretty well over the last few years. (Can't speak for the second half of last year because I was one of the pink hats who stopped paying attention right around when they lost their 115th game.) I'm way too lazy to look up the stats, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that we hit aces pretty well. I mean, no one hits aces really well or they wouldn't be aces, but I seem to recall us holding our own at least against the Verlander/Sabathia types.

You may now destroy my feeble memory with actual stats if you are so inclined.

Actually, you'd be correct. There have been a couple of seasons in the close past where the Red Sox have destroyed the top and bottom tier pitchers in the league, but struggled against the average ones, because f*** logic.

One of my fondest memories of the 2012 season was a game at Fenway vs Detroit with Verlander pitching. We had the bases loaded with Nava at the plate and a 3-1 count. Verlander throws a 99mph heater on the outer half and Daniel swings through it. Verlander comes back to the exact same spot on the next pitch at 100mph and Nava smokes it to the wall for a bases-clearing double.

Aceves sucks. Weren't they supposed to release him in February? I'd much rather be watching Steven Wright!

Feast today, tomorrow might be famine with Lee.

Believe it or not, but of the Halladay/Lee/Hamels trio, the one with the best numbers against us was Hamels. (Who pitched yesterday so we shouldn't see him in the series)

In 5 starts (32 innings) Hamels is 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA, .91 WHIP and .200 BAA with a 32/6 K/BB ratio.

In 12 starts (80.1 innings) Lee is 3-5 with a 3.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and .239 BAA with a 67/27 K/BB ratio.

In 39 starts (275 innings) Halladay is 14-15 with a 4.39 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and .267 BAA with a 201/66 K/BB ratio.

I imagine Stephen Wright would be more entertaining to watch if we weren't Sox fans. You know, to see a mutual slugfest instead of a beating.

Although with Aceves you always have the chance he's going to spaz and do something entertaining. Maybe we can wrassle up a few Canadians to go at him again.

Lee's numbers are inflated because of a couple of starts when he was still s***** with Cleveland though.

Those Lee numbers must be early in his career. Since he went to the NL when he begin to become an ace.

He still has a 6.85 ERA. We need to keep in mind that the Phillies are the #27 offense in the majors-- who just lost Chase Utley. Hopefully he can build momentum after tonight though.

Mike Carp and Mike Trout should play for the Marlins.

Edes did an all-fish team on the ESPN blog a couple of weeks ago. I had a good laugh out of it :D

Right, because that 2.54 ERA, 223 IP CY season he had with Cleveland before being traded to Philly is not an ace season.

If they pitch around Salty to get to Iggy, he's gonna crush one over the Mass Pike. Or bloop one over the shortstop's head, whatever.
