If the Sox didn't want Paps' contract two years ago because of diminished returns in years 3 and 4, why would the trade prospects for him now and pick up the salary? It makes no sense unless Amaro eats 50% of the remaining salary.

Thats exactly what im saying. I dont want him at his current price but as the deadline nears hopefully with Amaro taking in consideration Paps comments about the phillies needing to tear everything down like the red sox did, may piss Amaro off enough to move him at a lesser asking price than what was originally stated. Or is could bombshell and Amaro trades him to a no contending club because of those comments and stick it to Pap for opening his mouth. Amaro knows Pap wants Boston so he may stay away because of Pap hurting the Phillies brand with his comments.

Pap in the 7th or 8th and with the potential to close. With Philly picking up some of his contract and getting back a couple mid tier prospects back id make that deal.

But if Boston can go out and find a RHP with swing and miss stuff who can come in if needed in the 9th and wont cost as much as Pap id say do that. I just think we are one arm away from being a stacked club. Workman coming to the Pen will be good but i still think we need one more.

Pap can't come into really leveraged situations like that - or at least he did not show that ability since 2008.

Isn't insanity kind of this website's trademark though?

No, it's making s*** up. This place is full of outright lies and mistruths.

It's a little bit of everything around here.

I'm also a talksox conspiracy theorist. The destruction of talkpats was an inside job. I believe soxsport was sent here by Nick Cafardo to gauge interest in his articles. In the new TSWO (talksox world order) all avatars will be of Ortiz pointing at me.

The rumormill just keeps flip-flopping on Young to the Red Sox

The latest on Phillies third baseman Michael Young...

•Two executives believe the Phillies and Red Sox are discussing Young, and the Yankees would have interest if that falls through and Young would waive his no-trade for them, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Please don't saddle us with Young just to keep him from the Yankees.

Please. Let the Yankees take this one. It'll turn into a poison pill, I guarantee it.

We do have options. If Snyder and WMB can't hold down the job, we can call up Bogaerts. Failing that, Cecchini's in range for a callup considering his performance at AA and the team's general philosophy. Either one deserves a chance before we clog the team up with another declining overpriced vet.

Another trade goes down.

Padres To Acquire Ian KennedyBy Tim Dierkes [July 31 at 1:10pm CST]

The Padres have bolstered their rotation for the present and future, acquiring righty Ian Kennedy from the division rival Diamondbacks for lefty reliever Joe Thatcher, Double-A reliever Matt Stites, and a compensation round B draft pick, according to a tweet from MLB.com's Corey Brock.

I'd be even happier with Callaspo going to the A's if it makes the Yankees take Young.

Bud Norris is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing come here. I doubt it turns out that way though.

Eh. He has pretty awful numbers away from Houston.

id rather have Workman in the rotation than trading for Norris

That doesn't make any sense. Minute Maid is a launching pad, and the rest of the stadiums in the AL West (except Texas) are pitcher's parks.

Just stating the facts. He's sub 3 at home with an over 5 on the road. Throws me for a loop too but it is what it is

He can't pitch when more than 500 people are watching.

I don't disagree with that assessmet, but that mostly comes from Workman doing his job very well in his callups.

I wouldn't want to lose Workman in any trade to be sure. Even if he's destined for the pen in the long run, he's shown a real cool head and some nice stuff so far. He's worked out of some jams with self-confidence and poise, and he hasn't been particularly lucky to be pitching as well as he is.

He's ahead of some higher profile starters in the pitching depth right now and he's earned it. I'd like to keep hold on him because he looks like he might have the right idea about what it takes to stay in the big leagues. We could use a good #4 right now and Workman has made himself a candidate.

Besides, I love the fact that he's actually living up to his surname. He'll probably hear it every day for his entire career until he's sick to death of it, and so will we, but the job Workman has been doing really has been workmanlike.

Agreed. I think he will work out very nicely as a bullpen piece the rest of this year. I like that he has good swing and miss stuff and could definitely be a nice #4 in the future. If the Sox cant trade for another bullpen arm i think Workman could be a nice long relief guy or just throw him in there anywhere really.

Padres get Ian Kennedy, Bud Norris reportedly about to go too.

Covert excellent move for San Diego. Kennedy extreme fly ball pitcher - could be serious Petco beneficiary, enough to put some shine on him and make him a true asset again.

Sounds like Norris is still going to be flying, just closer. Apparently going from Astros to Orioles.
