Reports are that Iggy is gone. At this point, I don't care about the other pieces if Iggy is the big piece. I am more concerned about who we will get to play third base.

Dempster pitched in the NL for the last couple of years, and he's been healthy. Peavy's been pitching in the AL, and mostly injured. Not comparable.

Don't argue with me, I'm just relaying information. :weNeedNewSmileys:

What are you talking about? The two are polar opposites.

Both are 4.2 ERA pitchers. Pretty much the same.

They really aren't. When healthy (and that's a big when) Peavy is a #2 pitcher, but he's frail. Dempster is always healthy, but he's a middle of the rotation starter. Saying that two guys are the same because they have similar ERA's makes no sense.

I'm hoping it's a guy whose first name begins with an X, and whose last name begins with a B, and he's just 20 years old.

What does this mean about 2014? Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, Dempster, Doubront, Peavy all under contract, and Ranaudo, Rubby, Owens, Webster, Workman getting ready to be contributors. They may need to trade one, or possibly two starting pitchers.

Bogaerts is an obvious choice. Middlebrooks is a suitable backup (in theory).

Worry about that in the offseason. A guy like Dempster could easily be moved for a prospect.

Sugarcoat all you want. Peavy is a 4.2 ERA pitcher. He is a 1.0 WAR this year. Pretty much the same. Period.

Doubront is probably a goner.

No way the Sox would move Doubront before Dempster, given what Palodios presented. No way. Doubront is lefty, MUCH younger, MUCH cheaper, and under Sox' control for much longer.

There is zero reason to move him instead of Dempster, unless the haul you get back is off the charts.

I hope they don't trade anyone. You never have enough pitching. We have been looking for a steady #5 since we thought we had excess pitching and traded Arroyo.

Certainly a problem I don't mind having. You can never have enough pitching and it looks like we're gonna have a ton of it.

Sugarcoat what? Peavy's frail, and i didn't want them to get him. I am just telling you that they are not similar pitchers. It's not rocket science. Peavy's better, but is never healthy. Dempster's healthy, but is not that good. Just because pitchers have similar ERA's doesn't make them similar pitchers. Stop it.

Hopefully Iggy is the only "big name" involved...and as you said, still a 3B is needed.

i am not super pumped about this trade. I'd rather have gotten a big bat.

Still time to go... Iggy wasn't bringing a bat back. Now it's time to look at Young or someone else.

Who takes Dempster off your hands? Be realistic. Because of the options you present, you're much more likely to get something for Doubront instead of just giving away Dempster. I hope they trade no one though.

Jajaja even when they have similar numbers you refuse to see it. Ok.

Peavy's very frail. This could bite them in the ass big time.

Peavy doesn't make them dominant. And he doesn't replace Buchholz.

Dombrowski is no fool. He sees potential in Iggy, a kid who was out of place in Boston with Bogaerts and Drew ahead of him at SS--his only real position. He isn't a strong enough hitter to play 3B.

iortiz, i'm not refusing to see anything. I am telling you they are not similar.

By your logic, Justin Verlander and Felix Doubront are "similar" because their ERA's are close. Stop it.
