Lucchino definitely pulled a lotta' strings during the Theo era. AGons was one guy that Theo longed after forever and finally got. Many of the other Glitzy deals Lucchino was at least equally favoring. Still Theo was the GM. If he knuckled under to Lucchino he is a sell out. If was the master of his own ship he was a fanboy with a budget. Take you pick. Neither are particularly appealing.

Lucchino is more powerful within the organization than the GM. That's the main reason Theo negotiated Lucchino's position (President of baseball operations) with the Cubs instead of GM

You said it right there "opinion". And as a possible closer, Rubby has tremendous value anyway. And for a team that besides those two has Ranaudo, Barnes, Owens, Workman and just drafted Ball and Stankiewicz, that opinion is most likely dead wrong.
It's all opinion. Barnes has not progressed at fast pace. I'll be happy if one of that group makes it to our rotation for a few years. Our pitching evaluation has not been a strength.

People keep saying "Theo fell in love......" when a lot of these players are admittedly guys Lucchino lobbied for.

And a lot of the people doing that are using "Theo" to mean "the Red Sox braintrust during Theo Epstein's tenure as GM."

Goes both ways.

Wait and see is all we can do.

The immortal Papelbon blows yet another save. ERA up to 2.33 and performance quickly catching up to peripherals.

Yep, god awful with that 2.33 era and a 0.92 WHIP 34 k's in 38 inning (8 k's/9) and 20 saves in 25 save opportunities. Yes, take him out and shoot him.

Well the numbers are there for everyone to see. After his lights-outs start to the season, he's been rather pedestrian for a while now. It's the nature of the beast.

The numbers for the year are good so far and they will be good at the end of the year. That is what they pay him for.

We'll see. But he's certainly not pitching as good as he was when the BABIP Gods were favoring him.
We will see. He is getting older, but he is adjusting his approach. I don't see him falling off a cliff anytime soon.

Unless Puig pushes him off! :D

Buchholz had yet another set back, and he'll throw another side session on Thursday.

Makes you wonder if the Sox will be in on Garza. Would you be willing to give up Middlebrooks for 1/2 of a season of Garza? I would imagine that would be the asking price since the deadline is such a sellers market now.

I'd love to pick up Garza, but I'm not sure I'm ready to part with WMB, even with his struggles.

I wouldn't trade Middlebrooks for Garza unless we were sure we could sign him to a long term deal. Under the new system we wouldn't get a draft pick for Garza since we didn't have him the whole season.

In addition, while I'm all for trading Middlebrooks/Iglesias (as we'd have a logjam with Middlebrooks/Iglesias/Bogaerts/Cecchini) but I'd rather go after Cliff Lee than Matt Garza. I don't think Garza is an improvement over the majority of starters in our rotation and as such I don't think he'd help us enough to be worthy of Middlebrooks, plus or minus whatever the Cubs are asking.

I also think more teams are in on Garza than Lee, so we'd have less competition.

I would listen to people who were interested in WMB. Might not do anything but after what I saw I would listen.

WMB is simply not making any progress. I thought he was making progress based on the Red Sox propaganda machine and news media comments. Then I saw him on Saturday. Very small sample size but I was just looking for the tiniest sign of progress and I could not find it...none...nada...zippo....for a guy like me that was really hoping that WMB would show enough to make it back this year it was in a word....frightening!

NO ONE DOES

Which is why the Cubbies are stick with him.

Reports say at least eight teams are interested in Garza and have made formal offers for him. What are you talking about?

You know, at this point, I concede. I don't know what the f*** I'm talking about half the time. I'm too lazy to look this stuff up.

I give you props for admitting it. If only everyone on the forums took the time to look things up before posting, the world will be a better place. If it makes you feel better, you're a better poster for your age than I was, and way ahead of Suns. You might not get the reference but Suns was a 14-15ish year old kid who might compete for worst poster in TS history.

I read the second half of his post and was waiting for Username to make fun of me about it. Low and behold you're a wise guy (gal) too.

I hope that you're only referring to the "I'm too lazy to look this stuff up" part. :)
