I know this chat has been had before on here but what do you guys think?

Normal players would be slowed by injury or age and Papi just keeps hitting. He had a lull 2008-2009 but was still reasonably productive during those seasons. Besides that he has been one of the best hitters in the American league since 2003. He has a larger than life personality, 2x WS Champ.

Arguments against: a vague accusation of using PEDs, and being a full-time DH.

If Ortiz finishes his career like he has been going I see him in Cooperstown. There are all kinds of arguments against DHs getting in, steroid era guys, etc, but I think if there is going to be a first, Papi is fine choice.

He has a chance because of his overall popularity and what he accomplished in the playoffs to go along with his regular season numbers. He's arguably the best DH of all time. He's got a good shot.

Name one guy with PED connections who has made it to the hall. I shall wait here.

I think that eventually changes once the younger generation takes over the majority of the votes. I could be wrong, but that's how I feel.

PED users are not getting in. No chance.

There are admitted PED users in the HOF right now

Clemens and Bonds, two of the greatest players of all time haven't gone in, why would Ortiz?

That's what I'm saying. I believe it changes in the next 10-20 years and those players eventually get in.

Once Bonds or Clemens gets in, all the other PED users will follow if they have the numbers. I think Ortiz might be there with the numbers if he has a couple of healthy seasons.

I think Ortiz is lucky now because I think the environment will change in the 5+ years it takes for him to be eligible. His ratio numbers are fine imo, but I think he peaked relatively late so he didn't have the type of counting numbers that one would have for playing a normal "full" career. However, he's done amazing things when he was supposed to be left for dead, so if he continues to play like this, I believe his counting numbers would be worthy as well.

He and Manny won't get in because of HGH or steroids. They were all taking them 10 years ago.

Besides, it's much tougher for a DH to get in. And Ortiz had a couple bad years a couple years ago, which doesn't help as well. Couldn't hit lefties.

Is there a test yet for HGH? I suspect some are taking HGH or something else right now that isn't tested. There is too much money at stake not to. Pretty obvious. Heck, I would, as long as there were no serious side effects.

The media isn't just NY in the voting. Most are the Peoria writers who could care less about network TV. There are enough of them to keep the juicers out of the HOF. If only for their persistent lying on the issue.

I don't Ortiz is currently on something. He resurrected his career after he became a borderline diabetic and had to lose a ton of weight. He probably lost a good 50-60 lbs which got him in awesome physical shape which he has maintained.

He also figured out that he doesn't need to try to pull everything lefties throw him, he takes balls the other way, and works with what he is offered and that is why his average has been VERY healthy over the last few seasons.

I think they're all taking something that isn't tested. Ortiz plus all those Yankee retreads that are hitting over their heads, plus others in MLB. The sports clinics are way ahead of the testers, and the players have money to burn--they can afford anything.

If Edgar Martinez is not in the HOF as a DH, David Ortiz has no shot, steroids or no steroids.

Manny Ramirez put up great numbers in an era when a lot of people put up great numbers.

162 game seasonal averages, can you spot Ortiz and Manny??? (just for fun)
