Olney tweeted Machado has saved 4 runs at 3B this year. I don't recall any of the Boston sportswriters speaking about Red Sox players like that. They are too busy talking about offense. How many runs has Bradley saved in LF this year? Iggy at SS? At least a couple each.

Selig lamenting the small number of Afro-Americans in MLB. I think 7.7% was mentioned.

The Afro-American population is about 13%, so the MLB numbers are actually closer than Football and Basketball, where the numbers are well over 50%. Also, MLB is not counting the number of Afro-Caribbean players--some of the Latin Americans have African parentage on one side. Ortiz, I believe, is one.The situation is oversimplified in the media--it isn't all black and white.

Do we all still think it's just a coincidence that the last time Farrell was here, Lester and Buch were outstanding. And now, this year, they're a combined 5-0, 0.88 ERA so far??

He's having a huge impact.

Those two guys are skewing the starter data. The rest of the starters have done nothing. You have to wonder what Webster would do slotted in the #3 spot.

All good teams have two really solid horses to lead the rotation and so far we have two of the best this year. The potential problem is not solved is for someone to step up and become the solid and dependable No. 3 man that we need so badly. Dempster and Doubrant haven't done that yet and we need one of them and maybe both to start making a solid contributiion to the starting staff. Maybe tomorrow Dempter will get it done. It would be terrific to finish the series with the hat trick. At least we go to bed happy tonight. No one will be walking the floor this night.

Except that it is, because they're talking about African-AMERICAN players, hailing from the US. "Afro-caribbean" is nonsense, David Ortiz is hispanic.

Also, you seem to not be reading the right Boston sportswriters, because defense is a topic often covered by them.

Seriously, where do you come up with this stuff?

In five starts,

Lackey gave up 2 ER

Dempster gave up 1 ER, and 3 ER.

Aceves gave up 2 ER

Doubront gave up 3 ER.

So, in summary, I think this point is silly.

It will all boil down to whether guys in the rotation can stay healthy. Even when a 5 goes down, somebody has to step in for him. That somebody is then not available to step in for somebody else. On the bright side, Lester has been a horse his entire career. On the not so bright side, Buch...not so much.

This is true. BTR, if you are reneging on a signature bet, you are neither a member in good standing of this site nor a particularly decent human being. If I recall correctly, even Jacko has held up his end of one of these agreements, and as a Yankees fan his sense of honor and decency hovers somewhere between "Berkowitz" and "Romulan".

You're generally a pretty cool guy, and I'd hate to have to change your signature for you.

Fair enough.

A700, what is it and how long does it need to stay up for?

Every time you insert an unnecessary apostrophe into a word, a child is orphaned.

Guilty on that one. Wow that was even worse than what I'm used to, that's a problem I face regularly. Damn my bad dude.

Wait, would that make him "Son of Selok" then?:D

More importantly while Farrell is a competent, good manager, he was replacing the complete and utter antithesis of competent and good as a manager. At the point in time when the Sox hired him, Bobby V may well have been the worst managerial candidate available as opposed to the best. He was quite possibly the only manager in my history of watching baseball that has forced me to acknowledge how damaging he was to his team of players. In fact Beckett while not being a positive influence probably enjoyed even greater influence with the pitchers since the manager's office was such a black hole of deceit, deception and incompetence. In truth, as often as we have given the Sox, their players and their organization a pass, the biggest pass ever granted was the pass granted for having brought V here. I think we were all so happy to see him go that we just did not care to truly offer up the degree of criticism the Sox deserved for bringing V here.

In a perverse way, hiring Valentine may have been a brilliant success. It may have accomplished the goal of 'cleaning up the clubhouse', albeit in a very nasty way, by detonating a bomb in it.

SFF kept his up until Spring Training. He is a very good sport. The usual duration for these things is a couple of weeks, but we should tack on 2 additional weeks for welching for the entire off season. The signature:

All Hail, A700Hitter!

In the same font and typeface as your Lackey signature.
