If you're going to post in this thread, could I ask once more for you to keep your comments on topic? Ad homenim attacks are clearly against the forum rules.

Again, no one's forcing you to be here. If you don't like being here, be somewhere else. If for some unknown reason you have a legitimate problem with there actually being a thread about a Red Sox player on a Red Sox forum, feel free to cultivate the conversation with threads of your own that pull the forum in directions you prefer. If this doesn't matter to you, no one's stopping you from opening your own thread about facets of the Red Sox that matter to you. That's all I'm doing, and it's the whole point of being on a forum like this.

tl:dr: Post on topic or GTFO

Didn't get a chance to watch the game. How'd he look?

Heard Castig complimenting his D, and from the highlights he had a decent stretch on Middlebrooks' great barehand play. Overall, he wasn't noticeably bad, and I think that's all we were asking of him. But it looked from the little I saw, that it went actually a little beyond that and he wasn't visibly out of place defensively at 1B at all.

But I'm such a Nava homer that I want someone else's opinion.

Like to hope Nava can eventually make Carp obsolete so we can keep Iglesias, Drew and Ciriaco all on the roster. I don't want Iggy sent down. If Nava is still hitting a little and playing first and corner OF, we ought to have the versatility to keep all three MIF

Don't get too big a head my friend because he could go South again, but right now you look like a freakin' genius and I salute you. You have never wavered on Nava even when he slowed down last year and today he and you hit one out of the park. Right now you can be the biggest Nava homer that you want. I only wish that this time around he doesn't slow down after another terrific start.

I know it's always great when a fan likes a certain player better than his colleagues and the guy comes through big time and Nava sure did that today. Know what? The guy doesn't look all that bad in the outfield and he didn't look too shabby at first when he played there.

Well at any rate, today, you can take the biggest kuddo of all of us.

On topic: Your obsession with Nava (who is the topic of thiss thread) is very unsettling.

No doubt Dojii has an obsession with Nava. To me he is a journeyman and nothing more, but let the guy have his jollies, at least today anyway. We should all appreciate what the guy did in that big seventh for us. I also think he might now be a better fit for us than Carp is, though I have to admit I haven't seen enough of Carp to really get a good feel on him. My question is can Nava actually keep playing consistent ball all season for us, not running up humongous numbers but at least not fading away after a hot month or so.

Hey, i like Nava. He's versatile and can get on base. I simply (as stated before) find Dojji's obsession with him to be very unsettling.

Dojji had a semi when Nava stepped to the plate with runners on second and third.......he skipped right over the hard on part and made a mess of his pants when he hit the HR.

Well, until Dojji starts sending him underwear in the mail, I think its pretty harmless:lol:

Finally got a chance to watch the home run Nava hit last night.

Holy smokes. If Pedroia hadn't blazed the trail before him I wouldn't have thought a guy that size could hit the ball that far. Combine that with going out to deep center at Rogers, and the possibility that this long-suffering kid has finally found his big league swing can't be ignored.

You know, UN, the way you overreact makes it all the more entertaining for me to keep right on.

Half the reason I keep on with the Nava stuff is because I got painted into a corner awhile back by folks that demand that Sox fans only root for superstars and can't understand what joy I get out of looking down to the #20 spot or below on the team roster for people to pull for. Now I'm desperately pulling for Nava to make a fool of a few people. He's the best chance i've seen since Kason Gabbard for one of the underrated guys I always pull for to make a real impact.

dojji, UN may be a bit harsh, but there is no denying you have an over sized man crush on Nava, "long suffering"? JC you act like he walked Yawkey way for 40 years before finding the promise land...

I just saw the HR now for the first time, too, Dojji. That was indeed a serious blast. He's a strong kid.

I'm with you on Nava, for what it's worth. I know you're supposed to root for the name on the front of the jersey, but it's nice to be able to root for a guy both because he's on the Sox and because of who he is. Nava seems like a good kid and he's got a great backstory. The fact that he's gone from being a 5-foot-nothing guy in some independent league backwater to being a serviceable major leaguer honestly makes it more fun to root for him than it would be for, say, Barry Bonds in a Boston uni.

Kason bleeping Gabbard... It always comes back to him.

Dojji, there's a difference between rooting for lesser talents and making them out to be something more than role players.

Sure, but let's let a guy prove whether he's a lesser talent or not, rather than just blatantly assuming based on draft slot, age, height, current role or whatever.

The difference between you and me, MVP, is I keep my mind open to guys transcending their current position and situation. Especially a guy like Nava who's already done that to an extent to even get where he is.

The reason it always starts with Gabbard, is that Gabbard was the first guy who showed me it could be done, with his excellent run in 2007. If he hadn't gotten hurt, it would have been the start of a pretty decent career for him. Lefties with groundball stuff who also strike out 6 or 7 batters an inning have a shot to get somewhere. Unfortuntely he hurt his elbow and lost his command the next year in Texas and it was all over, but it was there for him if he could have stayed healthy..

I said he'd be the 4th OF this offseason. Most people laughed it off. I know he has value. I just don't see him as an everyday starter on a competitive AL team.

Nava started off hot last year and nose dived quickly. I'm really happy the kid is playing well and I tip my cap to him for the effort he has put in to make himself as versatile as possible. I'd just like to see if he can keep it up or if he tails off again like last season before I dub him the "next big thing". I think he will be platooning in LF with Gomes and may play 1B once a week to give Napoli some rest.

I don't think he hits well enough against lefties at this point to be a full timer but he's definately a good bench player who can play a couple different positions and get on base at an excellent rate against RHP. I'll take Nava over a lot of other team's 4th or 5th outfielders.

Well, if Bradley needs to go down, seeing might well be believing. As the lefthanded side of a Nava-Gomes platoon, he'd be the nominal starter, especially if Gomes struggles defensively which is very possible.

He's flat out beaten Carp for the primary OF/1B backup roles. He's hurdled every other artificial barrier someone's put in front of him. I'd think real long and real hard before I predicted the last one would hold. There's a lot worse starting LF's out there than the guy I see Daniel Nava's ceiling as being (.270/.380/.420). If he can gain even a little consistency on the right side, he could break that too, especially if his recent power display is not a mirage (which I honestly think it probably is, at least to the level he's displayed in the last 2 games(.

Carp needs to go.

He at least gives us all some common ground, pretty sure everyone wants him gone :D

A few thoughts after tonight's tough lost game against the O's.

I said earlier this year that whether I liked it or not, Nava is the best LF on this team at the moment. He is the best fielding LFer we have and is clearly white hot at the plate at the moment. Gomes may have an even harder time breaking into LF after JBJ goes down than while he is here.

Salty is on one of his classic runs. However we have seen this before. So I cannot tell how real it is or if it will last in some form or another. Frankly his defense and battery skills are only tolerable when he is hitting like this and these runs of his have never lasted long enough to make you forget his issues behind the plate. I really don't see any real improvement in Salty's defense and battery skills between this year and last. Still struggles mightily with pop ups. Still goes through stints where he does not move the target around enough for the pitcher. Still has trouble blocking balls in the dirt and has trouble throwing. The one place where he appears to have made a little bit of progress is in his defensive decision making. So far has made fewer mental errors as far as where he goes with the baseball...defensive things like that. Sample size may be too small but I think I see some improvement there for him so far this year.

Well, I look smarter than I have any actual right to.

Good work, Mr. Nava. Keep it up. Nice swings against the righty today.
