In last 75 years, only Jackie Bradley Jr and Larry Walker had 3 BB & 2 R in MLB debut

Unreal how they can crank out a stat like that.

If the Sox continue to play like this it will cause quite a dilemma for them. This is NOT Red Sox baseball. If it is not an aberration it could be good baseball, just not Red Sox baseball. Their one power bat goes 0-fer and the other semi-power guy really does not show it. They still win big and going away and rubbing the Yanks nose in it at the end.

Only one game but it will be very interesting to see how management reacts if this is how they play games. I bet this game will do wonders for ticket sales.

Off day tomorrow, that sucks, it sucks much more had they lost.

It sucks for the fans, but it works out for the best. The Red Sox get two days to feel like winners, and maybe that'll build some momentum towards Buchholz's start Wednesday.

Joe Girardi right on with his analysis of what happened today.

We might have to wait for Toronto to get a true test. This Yankee team looks hopelessly lost at the plate at least until they get some guys back. Caught in no mans land. Not enough of any one thing to be effective. You can tell, they are still hoping that guys like Gardener can get on and Cano and Nix can get them home and pull them through. But they can't get on enough and putting the load on two guys like that makes it easy for the opposing manager to figure out what to do. They could go 0-fer April if they are not careful.

Interviewing Farrell there are tubs of bubble gum over his shoulder on a locker shelf. Sort of what I mean about baseball being particular to certain things that are only baseball. Where else would you see tubs of bubble gum.

Not to mention that we will feel a helluva lot better than Yankee fans the rest of the day and tomorrow. If Buchholz pitches as he did in Spring Training we could go up 2-0, and that is what I expect just as I expected a victory today. Hey, tell the truth Palodios, didn't you really feel we would win today? I just knew it last night.

The one wart in all this is that I wished Lester could have gone more than five innings. No problem now but I don't want to see this thing get to be a habit for our starters. We don't want them gassed by August. Now let's make it two in a row on Wednesday.

I don't get on the game threads during the game Pal. I'm simply a single task person. I let my wife Linda do the multi-tasking. GOOD DAY ALL AROUND.

I just got home from our first outdoor training(it's been cold here), needless to say I'm in full baseball mood and am excited for today's game

Red Sox win 7-2, Bradley hits first career HR of RP late in the game to seal it :D

I'm re-checking the game thread BSN since I don't post during games. Cannot multi-task worth a damn. You were off by a run today.......go to your room!!!!!!

For the record, I had the pegged 6-3 so I am already in my room. Good day all around.

After the season we had last year. Ill take a win anyway we can get it. And today was a sweet win! Huge confidence booster winning the first game of the season against your rival. Happy day my Internet folks :)

God damn I have Salty as my backup catcher in one of my fantasy leagues, but because he was playing the Yankee's today I set him out starting Wilin Rosario instead Salty would have scored 9 points for me today, dude walked 3 times right along side Bradley.

Exhibit 1 of 162. The early returns suck balls

Looks like you will have to wait for your team to get back from the hospital.

Too much...yanks totally self destructing with Jaba on the mound and an empty Yankee stadium. Somebody tape this...we may need it later for a pick me up.

I usually show respect for the Yankees because of their winning traditions and the fact that historically they have made my days miserable with the way they have given the Red Sox a bad time and to the Brooklyn Dodgers when I was a kid in Queens. To their fans, though, I don't have all that respect because a lot of them are a damn bunch of front runners. Did you see all those empty seats by the 8th inning? By the ninth they were fleeing like rats---and it wasn't to beat the traffic. Three subway lines running four or five minutes each time out get you out of there fast and the car traffic moves well too.

Bad as we were last year Red Sox fans did not flee like a bunch of mice in the barn. It was very noticeable and it kind of pissed me off seeing fans act like that..

great first game of the season guys. cant wait to see what this season holds in store for the sox!

Good to see a fellow Southern Californian on this board besides me. Great game today, right? Let's make this the start of something good. Where abouts in So. Cal do you live?

LMAO! Kershaw has pitched 8 shutout innings of baseball, it's still 0-0 at least it was, Kershaw just lead off the bottom of the 8th with a first pitch huge shot over the centerfield fence of Dodger Stadium! After pitching 8 innings of shutout ball! Dude is looking to pitch a complete game shutout and scored the only damn run of the game to make sure he was gonna get the damn opening day win LOL.

What a lovely start to the season.

It was nice to see Victorino and Iglesias get off to such a good start with the bat. It would have been nice if Jon Lester could have gone deeper than 5 innings but his early departure gave us an insight into what the bullpen can do, it looked promising.

1-0 baby!

PS. A cleanly shaven Kevin Youkilis in a Yankee uniform is just wrong.

Anyone see the game.... Can tell me how Lester looked? He looked good on paper. But it seems some think he still looked a bit shaky today. First game and all not a big deal. Just curious.

I'm watching that game right now here in So. Cal. It is 2-0 now. Here I am watching two teams that I despise. Go figure.

Personally, I thought he did better than the box score showed. He had one base runner early that Salty dropped a strike 3 call. Then, in the 2 run inning, there was one broken bat hit, two hits that ran right along the foul line, and one hit that hung in the air for a while, but found the rare patch of ground between Vic and Ellsbury. There was also a bunt by Cervelli.

He certainly didn't find himself getting smoked all game, that's for sure.
