I am incredibly disappointed that in a series that went all 5 possible games, they didn't manage to have even one game where the SP matchup ended up being Fister and Colon.

EDIT: If everything aligned perfectly, both starters would pitch complete games, and the Tigers would win 1-0 on an RBI infield single on which Colon couldn't handle a low throw to first base. Then the headline could be "Colon's Stretch Not Enough to Handle Fister"

Now that the Pirates are gone, any NL team that goes to the WS will earn the league big money. A Sox-Dodgers WS will be a gold mine for the league.

Helpful tip -- Stephen Drew's nickname is "Dirt". Might be useful with the Tiger's #3 starter on the mound.

I wish Fister and Furbush pitch in the NL so we can hear announcers snickers when one is pitching and the other is at the plate. Fister pounds Furbush inside with a heater!

Once Fister takes his turn at the dish, "Fister takes Furbush deep to center"

When Bud is wearing his business hat, he is loving the prospects of a Sox-LA WS. When he is wearing his "former owner of a small market club" hat, he'd be swearing

f*** ESPN. They barely cover baseball outside of baseball tonight, they suck.

They barely cover college volleyball. They used to, when they first started. Your point?

Ok hopefully tonight Tigers/A's game goes 20 innings.

It has potential. If Vogt hadn't ended game 2 in the ninth, they could have remained scoreless for a long time. Sonny Gray looks like another great A's pitcher.

You know the stooges at ESPN will be talking about how the small market mantra isn't working if Boston and LA made the WS. #2 vs #4 payrolls in baseball

Not so much, the annual #1 payroll team failed again.

It is so silly - baseball's economic system is probably the most stable outside of the NFL (where so much of the revenue is centralized). Is it sad that Tampa has to trade guys? Sure - but they at least do not have to maintain a minimum payroll (and thus employ useless veterans) and tie Friedman's hands behind his back. That was the beauty of Moneyball for baseball fans - it took the excuses for smaller market teams and created some expectations.

Verlander's velocity is way down.

it always is early in the game. Wait in a few innings he will be hitting upper 90's if not 100

Edit: he's hitting 95 now.

Not as low as 91-92 though. He's usually topping out 94 the first few innings.

Per Gameday, he's hit 96 all of once.

For the record, Fangraphs has his average fastball velocity a tick down from last year, and on a decreasing trend since 2009.

But yet he still hasn't allowed a hit.
