I am first and foremost a Redsox fan, but I moved to CHI when I was very young, so it was hard for me not to become a Cubs, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks fan.

What is the general consensus of Theo Epstein around here? He isn't making big waves over here in CHI, but he seems to be quietly changing things from the inside out.

He was ok. Would get infatuated with certain guys (Lugo, Salty).

At the end of the day, he just couldn't say no to LL. Rather than building up a winner, he built a team of big names.

My consensus was that he inherited a very talented group of players with a large payroll. He hit gold with a couple of players which lead to a WS title.

Theo is a good FO guy. Some of his/the current FO signings were questionable. But his drafting and building of the farm system is really good. No one Red Sox fan should argue that, and if they do they have an agenda. The team has had lots of homegrown talent come to the bigs and produce at a high level.

Theo inherited a stacked team built by Duke. He was a puppet in his early years when the Sox won their championships. When he was given more autonomy and control, he made one bad and expensive move after another that sowed the seeds of the team's downfall. He will get his chance to prove his worth in Chicago.

Theo was instrumental in us winning two titles. He inherited a strong team but he made some great additions those first few years. After 2007 he made some moves that turned out to be major mistakes. But the biggest problem was that the farm system ran completely dry.

If I ever ran into him in a bar I'd definitely buy him a drink.

OK maybe you can say that about the 04 team, but the team goes nowhere without the addition of Ortiz and Schilling, both moves done under Theo and company's watch. The 07 team had his finger prints all over it and he deserves as much credit as anyone for that Championship.

I didn't give or deny credit to Theo in my post for 2004 and 2007 . I just tried to state the facts. He didn't have autonomy until after the 2007 season. How much credit he gets for 2004-2007 is something that we really can't determine, because LL was holding the reins tightly. Certainly, Theo gets credit, but we just don't know how much. He was reportedly against the trade that brought in Beckett and Lowell, significant players on the '07 team. Now, it is his show in Chicago. He will get all the credit and all the blame.
