Tremendous game. Pens may well have expended themselves tonight and they really did outplay the Bruins for a major part of this game....but then there was Rask.

Amazed that as the overtime periods took shape, it was 41 year old Jagr who slowly but surely surfaced as the guy on the ice capable of taking that one more step forward, taking the puck away on the boards and generating offense off of that effort....that is just amazing to me. If I am not mistaken Jagr was right in the middle of the last four Bruin scoring chances, one being a shot two others leading directly to shots taken, and finally one resulting in the winning goal by Bergeron.

Broken leg for Soupy. The Merlot line is gone.

I'd recommend bringing Pevs down to center the 4th line for now until/unless we get Campbell back, and inserting Soderberg into the lineup. His combination of speed and skill would complement the line fairly well.

Julien will probably just play Daguvins at center or something.

Pittsburgh looked like the better team for the majority of the game. The 3rd was the most lopsided 0-0 period I ever saw. The first OT looked even, maybe a slight edge to Boston but Pittsburgh looked better in the second OT.

The Bruins often left Rask hanging out to dry and he single handedly kept Boston from losing that game.

I agree with you, but that's what makes this worse for the Pens. They absolutely needed that game, laid it all out there on the ice, and still came away in the L column. I can't envision them even winning game 4 at this point. Frustration and lack of confidence can create a very nasty downward spiral that it would take a phenomenal bit of coaching for the Pens to overcome.

Boston definitely dominated the first overtime, by the second overtime, it looked like both teams were too tired to maintain any momentum. The play was very back and forth because both teams were so sloppy.

How about giving Rask some credit there Dojji?

If that's the impression you got out of my post I didn't articulate my point well. I wasn't trying to talk about why the Pens lost, simply the impact of the loss.

The fact that this has to be fantastic for their confidence (like it needed help) doesn't hurt though.

Oh, and obviously, something happened in that game that warranted an avatar change. HUGE respect for what Gregory Campbell did on a broken leg in that game.

Looks like Dauguvins is going to be given a chance to try to follow Campbell's act.

Good luck, kid.

Chara in that last minute. No words...

That play was bonkers.

The fact that Letang was a Norris finalist and Chara wasn't is a joke. But there's probably only one trophy the Bruins care about.

Round 3 and it will be their last one

Oh well, the Penguins will take care of the Bruins for sure.

I'd like to see a Penguins/Blackhawks final. Clearly the best two teams in the league.

This Pens team is WAY better than that Canucks team was and it's not even close.

I think the best part is that there isn't a possible bad opponent left. Either the Hawks or the Kings are worthy of making this a great series and not caring too too much if it goes the other way.

Taking Blackhawks to win Stanley Cup, so I might have to eat two.

I might be wrong but I don't think the Bruins were ever behind in one single Pens game. I think the Pens were at best tied in these games but mostly looking up at the Bruins.

Also even when the Bruins were outscoring the Pens big early in the series, early in games the flow of play was favoring the Pens. But with the possible exception of Game 3, that never went on for more than a period. From the second period on these games were played the way the Bruins like to play hockey. Without question the worst decision the Pens made was to try to prove that they were as tough as the Bruins. That was a complete waste of time and effort.

As it turns out, the Pens needed every minute of offensive pressure they could get and even then, it never looked like they had an answer for the Bruins defense, especially since even if they beat the defense, they were stuck dealing with Tuuka. I don't think the Pens saw that kind of performance coming from Tuuka.

Claude Julien just named an assistant coach to Team Canada for the 2014 olympics

The Canadian coaching staff will be coach Mike Babcock, and assistants Claude Julien, Ken Hitchcock and Lindy Ruff.

linky goodness

I think Bergy's chance of making Team Canada just went up significantly.
