Thing that really stinks about this off season is that while they might be loath to admit it, the Yanks are in about the same boat we are in as far as player personal is concerned:

-The yanks ended up with enough injuries and age in their pitching to be in the same shape we are in with regard to that critical component...maybe worse shape

- both teams ended up with to many aging stars at their core...the Sox did take a big step forward unloading so many of those whacky contracts on the Dodgers but we still have plenty of holes to fill

- both teams have question marks in the outfield....maybe the Yanks are one outfielder ahead of us at this point since we have not done anything on Ross...they have Grandy and Gardner...we have Ells

- Yanks are really starting to get old around the horn...ARod, Jeter, Cano and Tex....YIKES....Cano is I guess a spring chicken comparatively....although you have to think the Yanks are in better shape behind the plate than we are at the moment. Sox are much younger around the horn but we don't at the moment really have a SS or a 1st Baseman.

The point is the two teams are in remarkable similar shape right now. That really does worry me though cause I don't think our FO is as capable as theirs at this point in time and I hate it when both teams are looking for the same types of players for similar positions.

Being allowed access to a team's clubhouse and press conferences is a privilege, not a right. Media outlets may have contracts with the Boston Red Sox, but I doubt that there are specific individuals in name on those contracts. Its time for this town's sports writers stop acting like paparazzi.

Hey, if you write something we don't agree with, you'll get blacklisted...

Now THAT would be a p.r. nightmare.

If you're worried about a player's reaction to the media, he shouldn't play here.

I'm not referring to honest journalism. I'm referring to made up fabricated ******** tabloids with anonymous sources. There is not a player in the MLB who will be able to survive the s***-storm of the media here if they don't like you-- surely you must have figured that out by now.

What were the fabricated stories again? All the "tabloid" type stuff turned out to be true.

Buchholz Goes To Pool Party

Portrayed: Fresh off esophagitis, Buchholz ditches the team and goes to a pool party at Foxwods instead of meeting up with the team.

Actual: Buchholz went briefly to speak for a charity whose goal is “to help with requests for assistance, to improve the lives of local families touched by tragedy, through matching the charitable donation of Greg’s media audience.”

John Lackey Double Fisting

Portrayed: John Lackey broke team rules by bringing beer into the clubhouse after a loss. (This may or may not be in the edited story, but was in the original story)

Actual: Beer was allowed in the clubhouse after road games. Lackey broke no rules, had a beer after the game was over (not during). It was a non story.

These are just two example I can think of off the top of my head. This year was an absolute disaster for horseshit stories by the media. Even if they had an ounce of truth to them, the remaining bits of the stories were completely fabricated with zero effort.

The media has become an absolute scumbucket in Boston this year. It's at it's all time worst. Too many media members trying to get their name out there so they throw up some ******** story to try to get readers. It's embarrassing to them, the city, and the team.

Back on topic, the Cubs are about to acquire Dan Haren for Carlos Marmol.

Are you freaking kidding me??

The whole point of making Bard a starter was because it's so much harder to find good SP than good RP. Trade Bailey or Melancon to the Angels. Both are way better than Marmol at a fraction of the cost. Then go use that money you saved on Soriano and Soria.

JHC. It's unbelievable.

Ladies...time to pack up a bowl of epic meal time....To many SP's in the mlb to lose sleep over that, donkey (image: Dr Phil)

How many of them are any good and NOT linked to giving up top draft picks?

Beat me to it, f*** man

Such an awful job by Cherrington. Absolutely awful.

Cafardo is saying the Angels coveted Bard, but not sure if that's who they asked for.

If they did, why the hell did we say no??

They probably think Bard can regain his old self somehow.

Ok. You stick with your sliver of truth and an exorbitant amount of fabrication and say it's legit.

And you can stick with the assertion that those two meaningless stories make up the worst year the media has ever had in Boston.

True, but regardless, the Sox still have Melancon, Aceves, Bailey, who are all better than Marmol.

And like I said, it's much easier to find a RP (Soria, Soriano, Madson, Broxton) than a SP with that ceiling.

Wow, I want to say you have got to be kidding me but come on! I am tellin' ya, this FO is just not capable IMO of acting decisively. If a player is attractive to multiple teams, I just do not know how we are going to land him. Been afraid of this for months now.

It is not so much the idea of Haren as much as the idea that he could have been a good fit here and we are not seemingly seeing many guys that look like we are all that interested in them.

For all that folks don't like about him maybe Johnson is the best candidate at this point now that Peavey is gone and Haren is gone. I hate to say it but I see a likelihood of a number of posts like "forget about enter whatever name you want here he is gone. Move on".:D:D

How is BC going to swoop when he operates like he has one wing tied behind his tail feathers. With our luck BC will swoop down on the west coast, miss Haren and somehow end up sinking his talons into .......Beckett for a return engagement!:D:D

Epic fail Cherrington, epic fail.

Very disappointed that the Red Sox could not get it done. They were too busy working on a contract with Ortiz that should have been done weeks ago-- even though they essentially ended up giving him exactly what he wanted anyway.

Very very disappointed by this. We're going to end up with Liriano and Baker in our rotation next year, and that really sucks.

When asked to comment about the near missed deal that would have sent Haren to Chicago for Marmol Sox GM Ben Charrington said........ "Huh".
