Bailey you stiff....what an outing. He does get a save though....might have just saved the Rays season.

Although tonights performances highlight something I mentioned recently. While many are thinking we have the makings of a really good pen for 2013, we still have nobody that can actually come in and put out fires.....Padilla certainly did not do it tonight. We have a bullpen chock full of guys that can come in and start fresh innings but we really have nobody that can come in and be a true fireman.

I know the season is over and has been for a long time. But that was pathetic.

This team had a perfect opportunity to end the Rays season for good with 3 outs to get and a 3 run lead.

Literally from day 1, this team has been walked off on a regular basis.

I guess we can wonder what V would have done if this was a really meaningful game to the Sox...although V has been the kind of manager that does not hook relievers quickly. Bailey sucked from the minute he walked to the mound and was wild both in and out of the strike zone. To be honest I expect that V would have left Bailey out there regardless.

http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/images/smilies/31.gif FFS... Yet another blown save!!!

Buchholz so deserved the W tonight, after pitching 7 scoreless inning.

It is almost as if the Sox are the opposite of the Orioles this year when it comes to closing out games.

Atleast the organization appears to be heading in the right direction to fixing this perpetual pitching problem. Lucchino mentioned today that the team would be looking to add a dedicated pitching evaluator for the entire organization and another senior advisor to Cherington in the near future.

Wow. 5 runs and only 1 out??
In 6 years as Red Sox closer, Papelbon never gave up 5 earned runs in an outing-- not once. Bailey is off to a great start breaking new ground. I guess he feels that he belongs now that his ERA has been inflated to almost 7.

As much as I would like to see the Sox ruin Showalter's season, I'd rather see the Y*nkees suffer. This whole season has been one big s*** sandwich. We will probably be subjected to watching the Skanks clinch against us in the last series of the year.

.....and still overpaid.

Some of these overpaid guys can be pretty useful. Overpaid Ortiz had the highest OPS in the league when he got hurt.

If a team pays a guy expecting a certain level of production and the guy produces to that level for the life of the contract, it is hard to argue that he is overpaid.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be useful because I love Papelbon. That contract though was ridiculous.

I'm not so sure it's ridiculous. We paid him 12 million last year. The AAV of his contract with the Phillies is 12.5 million. 4 years is long for a reliever, but Papelbon has proven himself to be very durable, and this year is no exception.

He'd be useless with the team rebuilding.
