You are so stupid you don't even know what smart is.

That sounds like something you'd hear on a middle school playground. Seriously, take a step back and have your nurse read to you what you just wrote.

That might fly at your nursing home, but you're going to have to do better to keep up with us wipper snappers.

It's always nice when people come around and make me look like less of a dbag.

Compared to that troll you're in the prince category MVP. I've got a feeling where that guy came from. We had a few of those from some defunct Dodger board here about six years back and they caused nothing but trouble, even the two who eventually became friends of mine. This Cano, though, bears watching. He might not be such a bad guy after all, but his missives hint he might be trouble.

You're a sad, sad person.

Jacko, remember those trolls from Dodger Blues back in 2007 who polluted this board? We may have one of them back. He sounds like he is here to make trouble but I think the moderator will take care of him quickly enough if he keeps stirring the pot.

If 700 was running the team we would have won 20 games last year.

No, he wanted Beltran too. It would have at least been 30!

He's not from DB. That board had its moments.

I guess my aspirations to join Sons of Sam Horn are nothing but delusional fantasy.

You wouldn't ever make it out of the sandbox there. Nothing you say is intelligent or original enough to get you an invite on to the main board.

Maybe so, but we couldn't have finished lower than last place, and we would have the #1 overall pick. Even Theo couldn't screw that up.

They have a sandbox? Those things breed bacteria.

Lester and Buchholz do not hold a candle to Pedro and Schilling, but I do believe they can compete with their 2004 stats. I don't think that is completely unreasonable.

Lester would probably have to have an ERA south of 3.00 for that to be true.

Toronto added five players in the pre-season--Josh J, Reyes,Dickey,Bonaficio and Buerhle--for a total of $43.5 M. The Red Sox added 8 players--Dempster,Victorino,Drew,Napoli,Gomes,Uehara, Ross and Hanrahan--for a total of about $56.6M. I put a net salary of $3.5M on Hanrahan, because they traded some salary for him.

Now Toronto has been annointed as pre-season favorites by the media from their acquisitions, and the Red Sox haven't received much notice--despite apparently spending about $10-12M more than the Jays.

Who got more bang for the buck? The Jays have the edge in starpower, and it looks as though the Jays have improved their pitching more as well--in starters, anyways. That's spending about $10 M less.

Did you used to be more intelligent than this before you began going senile?

Is there just one guy out there that has some weird love affair with 700 that he has to keep creating accounts just to talk s*** to him?

This seems to be a fairly regular occurrence here.

Yes it's been the same guy every time.

Sox, you're recovering from a purge. The jays are benefitting from one. Big difference

Actually, the Red Sox should be benefitting from a purge--their own. Let's see who benefits more.

The biggest problem the Sox have is they didn't improve their starting pitching the way the Jays did.

Believe me RSNC84, it used to be worse around here about six years ago untilt the moderators finally cracked the whip and got rid of the troublemakers. The current group of punks have already been banned so I think the worst is over but it does point out how some dipshits come on baseball boards not to contribute or give their take on things but just to cause trouble by going after certain posters. I had a round of that with four or five back then. Where are those bums now? Who the hell cares?

Garza is gonna miss the first month of the season. His name has been floated around here a lot the last year or so. That could have been a disaster.

I have to say i was hoping the Sox would have traded for Garza at the start of the offseason. I would of ate my words on that because Theo would of wanted a ton of prospects for him. He may bounce back and have a good year but it dont look like he will put of a season like the Tampa Bay years of old.

I was at a bar lastnite and heard a Jays fan talking about that the Red Sox were involved with the Marlins trying to trade for Johnson Reyes and Buerle before the Jays pulled the trade off. Were the Sox extremely involved with talks for a trade or did they back out because the prospects would of been to valuable that the Marlins wanted?

They were involved by Miami wanted Bogaerts and Bradley while wanting the Sox to pick up the entire bill(something along those lines). So it was an obvious pass.

I posted this in the WBC thread as well, but I've been wondering how will the WBC affect the major league season in 2013? Here are some of the players who'll be representing AL East teams. The more I look at it, I start to wonder if this may hurt Toronto's chances of dominating the AL East as some expected.

Rays -- Ramos, Zobrist, Fernando Rodney, Jose Molina

Red Sox -- Bogaertz, Aceves, Victorino

Baltimore -- Adam Jones, Pedro Strop

Yankees -- Cano, Texeira, Melky Mesa

Jays -- R.A. Dickey, Reyes, Lawrie, Encarnacion, Arencibia

I think the Red Sox backed out because they wanted to hold onto their prospects. Cherington was at some meeting at UMass when the deal was made. They had no serious involvement at that point.

I don't think they wanted Reyes or Buerhle. They are deep in young options at SS, and Buerhle's contract is excessive. Johnson was the one guy they were interested in, and he's an injury risk.

The odd thing is the Red Sox wound up spending more money pre-season on new players than the Jays did. The Jays got more quality, especially in pitching, and the Red Sox got more players. It will still boil down to pitching, as to which team finishes higher.

What Marlins asked for and whether there were any firm offers is a subject for pure conjecture. It's just a guess, and probably an inaccurate guess at that. The only thing that is certain is that the Jays got the deal done and picked up big talent on both sides of the ball.

Unless Cherington comes clean we most likely never know who we offered or even if there was a serious exchange of prospects mentioned. What I do know is that if our young players prove that they are ready they must not be blocked anymore. If that means sitting the fast fading Victorino or the sloppy fielding and one trick pony Gomes, that's the way it has to be. Give Epstein credit for one thing. When Henry benched Lucchino from on field developments Theo made sure that Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester and Papelbon got their chances instead of some old veterans long past their prime aka, Lucchino types.

Now that Larry the Lizard is back in control and using Cherington as his errand boy, we have to hope that these young guys get their chances when they need to instead of almost being buried as Youkilis was until he was 27.
