Really surprised that Shields came after Ells there. Ells just missed what was a mistake pitch no doubt. Can't believe Shields wanted it there.

I cannot wait until Crawford and Pedroia are back. Ciriaco/Nava need to be out of this lineup.

pedro is back to where he belongs and nava too

Beckett has decided to hold the ball on the mound at all times.

Can't give up runs if you don't throw the ball.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how it plays out for him.

Cotton? I don't get it

It's from the movie Dodgeball.

Actual quote:

Cotton McKnight: I'm being told that Average Joe's does not have enough players and will be forfeiting the championship match.

Pepper Brooks: It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em.

cody ross slumping

Cue a700 - "Cody Ross is a platoon player, he's not an everyday RF"

Ross will be fine. I hope they keep him. He may be a platoon player, but not in the true sense of the word. I would play him for 120-130 games.

 Agreed. He's seems to be optimal in a modified sort of platoon situation where he gets about 350-400 ABs.

A steady diet of Ross against good RH pitchers would be tough to take. Terrific platoon outfielder. You have to be a pretty weak RH pitcher to get hammered by Ross.

I hope they find a way to at least keep Nava on the bench. Nava does things that many of the guys on this team are just unwilling to do.

Good Fenway swing. If I played him against righties, it would be at Fenway.

Well you're guaranteed to have Ross, Crawford, and Ellsbury. Personally, I say keep Nava and Sweeney, but that really limits you when you face LHP.

Lillibridge isn't exactly stellar vs LHP either, but his versatility will probably keep him over one of Sweeney or Nava.

Sweeney may be the kind of a piece that the Sox use as a complimentary piece in a deal for a SP, though.

Seems like we have the kind of game that we can win....into that Rays bullpen aw well. Please don't grab defeat from the clutches of victory.
