The half of the season is gone. Time to make a cut and grade the players, V and BC.

Here's mine.

I give the team a D.

A? Papi, WM, Ciriaco, Miller.

B? Salty, Ross, Morales, Cook, Albers, Nava.

C? Aceves, Padilla, Atchison, Douby, Shopach, Pedroia, BV, Sweeney, Aviles

D? Gonzalez, Beckett

F? Bard, Matzusaka, Cherington, Melancon, Lester, Buchholz, Lillbridge, Punto, Kalish

Here's what fans have voted thus far on ESPN BOSTON.

I think Salty and Ross deserve a little more credit... They've been doing their part. They were never meant to carry the team... The interesting thing here, sans ortiz, we're getting a lot of production from "fill-in" guys.

Side note, I agree, Scott Atchison has been great. He has that look of a bewildered old guy who doesn't really fit. He's not flashy... But for more than just this season, he's been that solid guy who has been able to save the bullpen after a shaky start.... I'm really glad we've got him.

They get a C because they define mediocrity, but a D because expectations were so high.

Did you seriously give ciriaco an A for getting a few hits in 1 series?

Well, I liked the kid since I saw him play in Spring Training. I was surprised BV didn't consider him in the roster by the time. IMO he came to stay, we'll see.

This is exactly what I was thinking, but in reality, who actually gets to determine what the expectations are? This team is nothing but mediocre and average. One of the best offenses, one of the worst starting rotations, and a pretty good bullpen. I gave the Red Sox a C. We are in a spot where we can make a run for a WC spot and make the playoffs if guys like Buch, CC, and Ells can all make huge contributions. Also, Beckett, Doubront, Lester, and Morales are going to have to all be consistent SP's in the second half.

We are in a situation where we can stay mediocre or make a real run. The expectations for this team are always high, but realistically after what happened in September, there were mixed expectations. Some people didn't expect us to do anything and then you have some people who expect us to make the World Series every year.

C makes a good deal of sense for this team. You would expect a C team to not make the post season but not finish last and that is where I think this team will fall. They could get "lucky" and get in via the WC route but will get slammed in the divisional round I expect.

Hey maybe the WC thing for this year works to their benefit. They don't have an Ace. Who cares who they toss out there for the first game of a short series if they got into one. It will be a matter of getting lucky anyway cause the starting pitchers sure as hell are not good.

Pretty good grading. I'd rate Cherington a D. He's been given too much authority for a first year GM.

I'd rate Henry/Lucchino an F.

I gave the team a D.

I actually think the "expert" ratings listed are pretty forgiving for whatever reason. Maybe they are reluctant to give a poor grade to a specific player but would likely give the team as a whole a poor grade.

Being at .500 is atrocious for a team with this many stars on it. I think giving this team a C is being a little generous. But, since they are only two games back from the wild-card spot and they have had the most injuries in the Majors, a C is what they get from me.

I am not sure who voted for A or B. But, like a700hitter said, A is for awful and that means B is for bad. C is for crappy, D is for dreadful, and F is for failure.

Well, There's an A. :o C'mon gentlemen take your blinders off.

I could bet who voted A but I won't give possible names, we all know who possibly did. hhahahahaha :harhar:

a B? really? WTF?

I was about to give them a F... hahahaha

I gave a B considering the circumstance ... Yeah they are playing horrible, but bottom line is they are still very much in the hunt for a WC... Tell me any other team can lose 2 MVP caliber players ( Crawford receives votes every yr but last yr and ells should of won last yr ) has 2 of their best healthy offensive players struggle the 1st half ( gonzo/petey ) lose their closer in free agency then lose his replacement.... Then all the various injuries to petey/youk/WMB/bucholz/Sweeney/Ross/etc..etc...etc

That's alot to deal with, yeah being 9 gms back for the division sucks ball, but this team is about to be healthy real soon..... Remember the cards being 10 1/2 back last yr?? All we have to do is get in, then get hot

For that reason they get a B.... If all the above happened to almost any other team in the majors, they would be 20 gms out of the WC

Uhh, D. Extremely disappointing.

I still think this team can make it, but they need their s*** together, and they need luck.

While I think they suck, I have my hopes that they could come back as Emmz said. It's a long shot, but possible.

I've been very critic about this team, But I will always love this team and I'll always wish them the best. Maybe I'm a bit demanding (I'm not sure if this is the correct word).

Hell, some players are prima donnas. It's unacceptable, They make tons of money. This is part of the problem. The very least they can do is put all in the field and be professionals in all the sense of the word. What bothers me more is that our FO has no balls to address these kind of problems.

Anyway, It's a shame that a team like this, is in the last place of the ALE. We'll see how it ends, though.

I was on the fence between D and F, then I thought about the general "f*** you just give me the money" attitude of a lot of the players and FO people give the fan base and coupled that with the s***** play and the needle shifted to F plus. As far as the injury ********, not only does every team have injuries, it seems like the Sox like to rush people to the DL for years now to have more excuses for going downhill for the last four years. The complacent heads up their asses crowd eats it right up and forks over their dollars this prolonging the inevitable overhaul of this team that is an embarrassment to their uniforms. 2 games back in the wildcard? Might as well be 20. A "B"? Come on man, take the blinders off already.

Why do fans around here clamor for all these AAAA guys? Hes a nobody.

I gave them a C. They are what I thought they would be. People who grade them D or F had unrealistic expectations. I predicted .500 and 3rd or 4th place with no playoffs. That's where they are.

Well, at least the kid showed heart and hungry in two games, thing that some prima donnas haven't showed in 80.

Salty's OPS is almost down to where I said it would be, high 700s. He's elite for a couple months a year, and miserable for a few more. We'll see how it ends, though.

Not even worth it no more haha, I stay away from that one.
