Ebola is more a febrile illness resulting in overwhelming shock. This sounds a little more benign

IBD is hardly benign. Its a miserable disease to have. I had many patients with it. Its a life changer. I can't see how anyone can be a ML pitcher with that. For his sake I hope its less serious than that, but that certainly one of the top choices given what we know. Salmonella or Shigella could do it too I suppose. Or an ulcer. All of those would be preferable.

Irritable bowel isnt likely to cause bleeding and it should be manageable. Inflammatory bowel disease is bad news

Between you two I think I am reading the New England Journal of Sports Medicine:D

Whatever it is, they probably know the diagnosis by now anyway. Endoscopies and biopsies do not take four days to come back. Nor do cultures. The delay in letting the fans know is concerning.

They definitely know by now. But the delay in telling the people is a little concerning

Here is the latest on CB. Seems to be esophagitis and nothing more serious:.

Sox manager Bobby Valentine was hesitant to say anything about Clay Buchholz's condition during his pre-game press conference. But the team issued a statement.

"Clay Buchholz has esophagitis, which led to an erosion of the esophagus and an associated gastrointestinal bleed. He has been evaluated and observed at Mass General Hospital. Clay is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery."

Buchholz was put on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

We will be seeing Buchholz & Ellsbury & Crawford at the same time: After the ASB.

f***.

Sure, we've scored 387 but have allowed 340 runs. That is 58 more runs than the Yanks have allowed (though BoSox have scored 37 more times).

Need a FRONT LINE starter by the trade deadline. Need Morales to live up to this small sample size & history of being a projected ace.

Whose most likely to be acquired? Greinke? Hamels?

Esophagitis isnt actually that benign a condition. It can recur and can also be stress induced. Plus, this is a slow healing process, one that usually sees the individual lose weight and have difficulty handling food.

Can't help wondering if young Clay might have gotten a little too fond of the pain medication for his back problem.

That'll do it. He seems to find different ways to get himself on the DL every yr. In 2010, it was a hammy pull running the bases. 2011, it was the spinal fracture. 2012, it is gut rot with a GI bleed. Next yr, he will develop Hantavirus, in 2014, he'll have Valley Fever and in 2015, he'll have disseminated gonorrhea after he finds out his wife has been cheating on him

Thats possible. I remember seeing one patient with an esophageal ulcer who "dry swallowed" her tetracycline, which she was taking for acne. This was a mistake, to say the least. One of the pills failed to make it into the stomach from the esophagus, instead, lodging there and eating away at her membranes. I am not sure if Ibuprofen can cause similar problems, but it wouldn't surprise me. All those NSAIDs are not quite as harmless as they were first thought to be when they came out. GI bleeding is not an uncommon side effect.

In any event, he should recover and eventually make it back. This is not career threatening, fortunately.

Good humor guys and two gem pictures SCM. I think right now a little humor might relax all of us considering all the inju ries we've had this season. For Buchholz, however, it could actually have been life threatening and that is no laughing matter as we all know. This time I hope he is fully mended and healthy before he trudges out to the mound, and that make it a dilemma for us because we seem to be running out of starting pitchers unless Beckett comes back and the rest stay healthy. Did all of you see how Sabathia is gtoing to be out for eight weeks and that Pettitte broke his ankle and will be out for awhile---or do I have this backwards? Maybe the Yankees can have a few setbacks as we've had even though none of us like anyone to get hurt on any team.

Glad Buchholtz was feeling good enough to go to an event at Foxwoods last night. Once that plane took off to Seattle, he must have recovered.

He won't be back at least until after the All Star Break. There apparently still some medical issues that need to be looked into.

You mean that charity event that didn't involve any strenuous physical activity? Yeah what a dick.

Franklin Gutierrez has been dealing with gastritis/esophagitis for 2 yrs now and has missed significant time with flare ups. The sox are definitely downplaying this, because further flares will mean further DL time

 ^^^

It's all a conspiracy. Buch is actually in Fiji right now, sipping alcoholic drinks and eating fried chicken in paradise (sounds like a Jimmy Buffet song, doesn't it?) with Beckett and Lackey.

There is no conspiracy, but what motivation does a team have for being honest with their fan base about injuries? They dont. This isnt an orthopedic injury, this is a medical condition

Pump this ugly skinny wreck full of acid blockers and acid reducers, get his blood levels back to normal and get his ass back on the mound. He was our best pitcher for the last couple of weeks before he blew out his stomach.
