There is no conspiracy' date=' but what motivation does a team have for being honest with their fan base about injuries? They dont. This isnt an orthopedic injury, this is a medical condition[/quote']

Gorden Edes tweeted something about smokeless tobacco. I presume Buchholtz is a user. What effect if any would this as well as his general nervous disposition play in both cause and cure?

You mean that charity event that didn't involve any strenuous physical activity? Yeah what a dick.

I don't know....is he a dick??

Gets out of the hospital after several days of IVs and no food, goes to Foxwoods the next day---an event that could not have been planned because he would not have been available under normal circumstances. Must have made a remarkable recovery because most people would not have had the strength to do that. Should I figure he is a superman to be able to do that?? Yea...what a superman.

I went to work every single day for six months with an ulcer that felt like a lump of molten rock in my stomach, and my job was much more strenuous than sitting or standing around doing nothing more exhausting than walking while in a casino. I think the occasional posing for a photograph and slight wave at the passing patrons was within tolerance of his fragile physical state.

He has GI bleeding and esophagitis, not Parkinsons.

Except that he stated he had a burger and pizza while in the hospital.

Why do you keep pushing a "nervous dispoition" as the reason for his ailments?

Franklin Gutierrez has been dealing with gastritis/esophagitis for 2 yrs now and has missed significant time with flare ups. The sox are definitely downplaying this' date=' because further flares will mean further DL time[/quote']

If the problems were caused by an identifiable source, like the use of Ibuprofen, and that source was corrected, there would be no reason to anticipate further flareups.

But nice try Yankee fan....

Stress is a leading contributor to most ailments. Buchholtz seems to put more stress on himself than most. He pitches as though he is Barney Fife on the mound. For example his repeated throws to first when the runner has a one step lead and there is a tough batter up etc.

Smokeless tobacco?

When I first heard about the esophagitis my first thought was bulemia. I used to work with a girl that had that due to the eating disorder. But don't remember her having ulcers so I could be off base.

Pretty hard not to allow some to be swallowed' date=' I'd imagine.[/quote']

I was sort of joking Nick. I don't think that the small amount of tobacco these guys swallow when they chew causes significant bleeding. Buchholz required 3-4 units of blood. Thats a hell of a lot of bleeding. They are not telling us everything in terms of the cause of it, but I have heard through the rumor mill that he was popping Advils like candy. A lot of people have esophagitis from the reflux of stomach acids past an incompetent valve and into the esophagus. This is called heartburn. As far as I know simply heartburn does not cause anyone to lose that much blood. Alcoholics get dilated veins in the esophagus that can result in bleeding like that, but to the best of my knowledge, GI bleeding from simply esophagitis is minor.

I am told that smokeless tobacco does cause stomach ulcers. I know that can do severe damage to the mouth and gums and is addicting just like cigarettes. I can imagine that his diet probably contributed to it also. I think the full range of medical issues are still to be determined from what I can gather. If he is using smokeless tobacco, he'd better quit because it can't be good for what ails you.

Glad Buchholtz was feeling good enough to go to an event at Foxwoods last night. Once that plane took off to Seattle' date=' he must have recovered.[/quote']

GTFO. And I'm not joking. GTFO.

This could not be a bigger piece of s*** comment. He goes to a CHARITY event which he DOES NOT DRINK.

Get the f*** out.

All you are is a f***ing troll who just wants to jump all over any of the Red Sox anytime they do anything. Your comments are complete ********.

You can't even spell Buchholz's name correctly:

Buchholtz is on the 15 day DL with a gastrointestinal "situation". Do you think this all has given him an ulcer?

You bring less than zero to this board.

I don't wing it, so all I am going to say about chaw and ulcers is that I don't know. Chewing tobacco is pretty disgusting anyway.

Some pretty heavy s*** is appararently behind much of Buchholz' travails. It goes from smokeless tobacco, maybe diet, perhaps alcohol, Advil, and Go knows what else. Maybe our half-ass medical staff can finally step in and be more of an asset than a liability to get this guy off whatever bad habits he has and get on the straight and narrow. In this case his health must come first but Clay also know that he might be risking career as well. Maybe this scare will get him thinking right. I sure hope so because this is serious stuff.

I know the two things might be completely disconnected but I have to admit that he did not look that healthy to me right from the start of the season and I said so at the time...thin and lacking color is one thing but he looked like he was auditioning for the next vampire thrills movie......Full Moon Major Leagues or somethin'

Yeah, if someone is on the DL he shouldn't be able to walk, let alone show human compassion.
