was there anything half as decent value in return as Zach.. ?? you understand the only upside for us trading to Whitesox was the 3rd round pick who still has to turn it around in the name of Zach Stewart. we dont have to worry about what Youk will do to us if we play well. period.

unless you can give me some names of Pirates/Dodgers that got floated around, its moot point to argue.

You are missing my point. I'd rather have taken nothing from an NL team. The point is not moot. Zack sucks. He will not help us this year or next. I'd rather have gotten a bag of balls and sent him to a team that will not be competing with the Red Sox for a playoff spot.

The Guardians, Dodgers and White Sox were the finalists for Youkilis as of Saturday evening, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. The White Sox separated themselves Sunday morning with the inclusion of Stewart in the trade.

a700 you are beginning to sound like a record that keeps going even when FO decided that inclusion of Zach was what pulled us from other team so the scouting report on Zach must be something they are seeing in him

He's just 25 and was a top prospect as early as last year. He's not too hot right now but crazier things have happened than 25 year old plus prospects getting their acts together and turning into decent big leaguers.
Crazier things have happened. I just wish they went hoping for a crazy thing from an NL team.

This tells me the other offers weren't anything spectacular. I would've only taken another offer if it included a decent starter but that just wasn't gonna happen so I'm happy with what we got today.

We were getting better value from the AL team.

All that matters is that Youk is gone and WMB cannot sit any longer.

Now the the big thing is how do Sox work CC & Ellsbury back into the lineup? Nava & Ross are great. Though, this really doesn't matter till AFTER the ASB. Jesus, Glassbury & Crawford sure take forever to heal up. Maybe they need an anabolic diet.

I think they made a mistake. They should have give him to the Dodgers and taken whatever the Dodgers were offering. It wouldn't matter if what we got was worse than Zack.

it doesnt f***ing matter what Whitesox do if we play decent baseball. we have a 3rd basemen better then theirs right now.

dude i am loosing respect for you for you crying out foul for this trade which was a no brainer..

Do I wish Youk was going to the NL, yes. Do I think this is a good deal, no. Do I think its probably the best possible deal- unfortunately yes. Given the chance Ben would have sent him to the NL, so that tels me there really wasn't any NL options.

Tonight Kevin I drink a beer and raise the bottle in salute of Kevin Youk. It was time and the right thing to do but I will miss him. He is a large part of the reason I started rooting for the Sox. He was a player I'd describe as gritty, old school, and a competitor.... only un like most guys I hear described with terms like gritty, old school, and competitor..... he was a productive ball player. Thanks Kevin for doing well for this club over the years. Good luck and enjoy Chicago....flip off Theo if you see him for me.

Go Red Sox, let's silence the dissecting of this move by winning many games.

Not enough to let him compete against us. I am not saying that the ChiSox didn't offer the best deal. It just wasn't good enough to let him stay in the AL and compete with us. One last time for you guys who are obviously trolling me on this. I'd have given him to an NL team rather than let him stay in the AL and compete against us for a pitcher that is a long shot and a utility guy not as good as Alex Cora.

It was a no-brainer to trade him. It was also a no-brainer not to trade him to competition.

I think this a fair point, though I disagree. Either way, I'd be interested in seeing what the Dodgers and other teams were offering (if anything).

Okay. Let me ask you this. You're against this because it makes one of our possible competitors better. What if lillibridge turns into his 2011 self? What if Stewart can find some heat back on his fastball and give us some decent innings out of the back end of the rotation and take dice K's spot? Is there no possibility or a lower possibility of this trade helping us just as much if not more than it helps Chicago?

that is your viewpoint. i feel Ben had no choice but to trade to whitesox for what he gets in return to get some valuable guy in return. my viewpoint

I cannot believe people are actually fearful of Youk pushing the WSox over us in the WC.

lmao.

lol not that they are a bad team but they dont stand a chance i believe. with Angels Redsox TB likely the mix for the WC spots

Must have been.

Look, I get your point and usually agree with all your posts, and you clearly know the game better than I do.... but on this one I feel you are hung up on something that is not that relevant. Worrying that current day Youk is going to put the White Sox in direct competition with us for a particular wild card - let alone give them the advantage over us does not have me worried. I would be equally worried that we meet the Dodgers in the World Series and Youk gives them an advantage over us. I think we are a better team than Chi Sox before and after this trade.

Can you answer the question I posed to you on the last page? Not trying to force the issue but just want your thoughts on the matter.

and that would be the subject of the bet. The WAR of Youk vs that of Zach and Lillibridge + 1 for the $2 million. Do you want the bet?

You're on.

I think we're in agreement that we both want me to win though? ;)

This is an opportunity for people to critique the FO. Hence, they will do it. SBF will be calling him Cherinpuke or whatever within moments, and I'm anticipating a Ben the Boob reference soon.

Even though the team Cherington has constructed has overcome so many injuries and now has a depth in the OF that nobody would have expected, he will still be ridiculed because other people could do a better job from the safety of their keyboards.

Glad to hear you think of yourself as clarvoyant but on this case all you are is full of s***!!!!!. The fact is EX1 is that this trade had to be made as I said on another thread for days. My surprise came when the swap was made without it being botched completely. Yes, I do not think much of Cherington so that we got so little for Youk is not surprising. It just had to be done to alleviate a log jam at third base, not to mention our starting lineup with all the switching off that has taken place the past few weeks. Now we Gonzales back on first where he belongs, Papi at DH and Middlebrooks at third and we finally have inserted a good young player into our lineup for the first time since 2007.

I will also say that I think this team needs a real baseball man to take over the general running of the team instead of some computer nerd who most likely never played or coached much baseball. Well try again my friend and next time you may be right and will be hitting 500.

I understand what you're saying. I'd like to see how much worse.
They probably offered next to nothing. The guy had little value based on his performance this season.

I have no problem with Ben's rack. Youk had to go.

On the lighter side of things, I have two red player t's for Youk and Paps. What player t should I pick up next in order to curse them off the Sox?

Iglesias AND Marerro

I was reading the message boards over at redsox.com and some of the comments there are ridiculous. There seems to be a split of people praising BC and complaining about BC. Yes' date=' Youk was once a gold glover and has won two WS with the Red Sox. That does not have any impact on how much he has sucked this year. Just because he was good in the past does not mean that we should expect more in return. The facts are that he has struggled this year and that he has been injury prone. Some people that call themselves fans over there amaze me.[/quote']

I'd rather take a chance on a guy who had HUGE success in the not so distant past (with a history of success) over two guys who have done nothing. If he had to go he should have gone to the NL for another player who has fallen off a cliff, not two guys who don't have binoculars strong enough to see the cliff. If the ChiSox were paying more of his salary I'd expect this but given how much the Sox are paying I'd expect at least one low level guy who hasn't had repeated chances to be a failure.
