I wouldn't trade Youk.

You never know when you could use him. This team has a horrible karma about injuries.

They had no place for Youks, but he could come back to haunt them playing for the WSox. Did they have any NL options? I would guess no. They are paying most of his salary, so no benefit there. Lillibridge was a super sub last year, but has started slowly this year. He plays IF and OF? That's an advantage, I suppose. The pitcher looks about as useless as Melancon.

Oh no' date=' they traded a .225 hitter to another AL team! What a devastating weapon to lose![/quote']

You mean they HOPE they traded a .225 hitter.:D

How will we measure if Youk is the reason? That bet makes no sense. They are a competitors. Let's just look to see if Youk has a positive effect on their WAR that exceeds what we got in return. How much does a win cost the Sox... more than $2 million? We can subtract 1 from Youk's WAR to account for the $2 million.

Alright. I get the feeling I'm walking into a trap but whatever. I don't care as long as we make the playoffs.

Youk being a huge part of that karma.

I am sure the Dodgers would have taken him for free' date=' which is effectively what you gave him to Chicago for[/quote']

Lillibridge was a nice bench player last year. Chances are he'll be good again. But he's another grade 3 outfielder added to the million other grade 3 outfielders they have.

We could just acknowledge here that the other guy was right. Let's use WAR as the measure. Youk vs. the 2 bags of garbage that we got.

Youkilis was not going to come back here next year. That has to be factored into the equation. AND his presence was blocking a better player. There was simply no room for him here any more. We might lose in the short term, but this was a necessary move.

He's versatile though and can hit lefties a bit. He gives us more than I think youkilis would at this point.

What would be the best case WAR for youk in the time he's with Chicago. What would you expect him to put up in his time there if he returns to form.

I just got home and have not had time to read all the posts, but I am very, very pleased with a return of Zack Stewart.

This is a guy who was a Cincinnati third round pick. A player who was the main piece in a package for Scott Rolen who was hitting .330 at the time. He was traded for Edwin Jackson last season. He pitched a one-hitter last season against the Twins (I believe). He is a very decent return for an injury prone hitter in apparent decline.

And before anyone questions all the trades, look at Gio Gonzalez. He was traded from the White Sox to the Phillies, back to the White Sox, then to Oakland before being traded to Washington.

I like it.

i would never make a trade with a competitor that would help them. If Youk helps them at all, we should've sent him to the NL. We didn't get anything in return from the Chi Sox, so why help the competition?

I see it this way. We got something good in this trade; better than what the White sox got. The ability to play red hot third basemen, Middlebrooks that right now just kicked a legend in Youkilis out of town. Let’s hope though that this isn’t just a long hot streak and he can be consistently god like.

I see 700's point but I am not expecting Youk to be anything more than a .220-.250 hitter from here on out anyway. We probably get something close to that with Lilibridge. He's gone when Crawford comes back anyway. The pitcher appears to have an upside but I am sure Cherington has the Theo mindset of polishing an apparent turd and making the kid a fixture even if he continues to suck. We'll see, this club can't get enough new blood right now anyway, 2007 was a long time ago.

You are missing the point entirely. I'd have given him to an NL team instead of giving him to a competitor. Are you really having a hard time understanding that? When we got rid of Nomar' date=' we sent him to the NL, the same with Manny, but we send Youk to a team fighting us for the Wild card. That's just stupid.[/quote']

here is the answer to your question,i hope you will give the answer to my question about his misery,,

do you even know if an NL team was interested?? were the Dodgers seriously interested in Youk, they are leading their division and we would have gotten crap from them.

which NL team was interested in Youk..

we got Zach Stewart who might turn it around and become a decent arm.. we atleast have some hope.. not sure if NL trade would have gotten half of that in return.

What did we get rid of $2 million. jeezus' date=' who are we the Royals! [b']I am sure some NL team would have eaten most of that[/b].

Evidently not. Otherwise Youkilis would be in the NL right now.

amen to that!!! hope the others can understand this too

Plus the odds are against the White Sox being the team we have to beat for a WC spot. The Rays, Baltimore and the Angels all have better records. The White Sox also have a good shot at winning their crappy division.

I agree. I would have prefered a trade to the NL, but the Sox can't worry about the AL Central. They needed to clear Youkilis from the roster to remove the unhappy veteran and to make room for Middlebrooks.

Besides, the Sox have to worry more about the season and making the playoffs. The AL East and the Wild Card spots are far enough away right now to not worry about the White Sox.

Now that Youks is safely out of Boston, the talk on mlbtrade rumors is what a great team guy he is, intense player, all-star 3rd baseman last year, blah blah blah. I don't recall him being an all-star at 3B last year. And the media has been passing him off as a clubhouse problem prior to his trade. I guess they just don't like the Red Sox. Youks is OK, as long as he plays for some other team.

It was also reported the other finalists were the Guardians and the Dodgers. And the addition of Zach Stewart made the difference (!) I would think that getting him out of the AL would have made a bigger difference.

I have no problem with Ben's rack. Youk had to go.

On the lighter side of things, I have two red player t's for Youk and Paps. What player t should I pick up next in order to curse them off the Sox?

Where can I send you your new Lackey t?

At the end of the day I guess the Sox really did not care about getting Youk out of the AL. I guess they are not worried about what Youk is capable of doing in an opposing uniform.

Youk had to go, and we all knew the Sox weren't going to get anything of value for him.

Whats the big deal. The fact that we got 2 crappy players is better than 1. I pretty much expected them to give him away AND us have to pay the remainder of the deal.

Check MLBTrade Rumors. Several NL teams were interested in Youk-- the Dodgers and Pirates had reported interest for several days.

was there anything half as decent value in return as Zach.. ?? you understand the only upside for us trading to Whitesox was the 3rd round pick who still has to turn it around in the name of Zach Stewart. we dont have to worry about what Youk will do to us if we play well. period.

unless you can give me some names of Pirates/Dodgers that got floated around, its moot point to argue.

Zack Stewart? He's a nobody. The guy stinks.

He's just 25 and was a top prospect as early as last year. He's not too hot right now but crazier things have happened than 25 year old plus prospects getting their acts together and turning into decent big leaguers. We wouldn't have traded for him if there was nothing of value there. We could've done worse.
