Actually a couple of times Nava at least worked Strasburg to the best of his ability. Like I said, there are times when his physical limitations are going to get in his way. That is why he is not able to stick with an ML team. However I would very much like to take his approach to plate appearances and graft it onto AGons body or even Mikes body to some extent just to name two.

Ross can be kinda' swing happy as well although he is currently injured. Byrd and d-mac....I have not been able to figure out what d-mac thinks he is doing at the plate for two years now and both he and Byrd would do well to make smarter plate appearances as they also have obvious physical limitations.

Yes' date=' posting a 6 ERA the first month kind of put us in a hole.[/quote']If we end up in the bottom 10 in pitching, it will not matter how we got there. Bottom 10 pitching just means your pitching sucks. You don't get to drop the first mont.

On a positive note, Gonzo is swinging the bat much better the last two nights.

I actually still read newspapers. A movie reviewer for the SF Chronicle' date=' Mick LaSalle, dissed it. Guess I only read one review. I would not let that stop me from seeing it though.[/quote']

woah woah. I love Newspapers, NYT, LAT, WSJ, but RT is usually quite reliable.

NPR, too. http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2012/06/08/154572020/hello-again-my-gooey-friends-on-loving-alien-and-seeing-prometheus

Basically 2 HR this game for Gonzo, right?

That's a good sign.

Please come back to us permanently Adrian!!

Should we start counting long foul balls too. It's a one home run game for Gonzo, but he is swinging the bat much better.

First time in God only knows how long we have seen Agons turn on the classic green light pitch for LH hitters...down and in. That might be his most encouraging at bat this year!

As for Youk, since coming back I think he has made good, smart plate appearances. He is still struggling with the slider from RH pitchers. Even there though I think he has made progress from where he was before going on the DL. Before that he was chasing sliders all over the place. He is still having more trouble hitting sliders but he seems at least to be seeing them better and not chasing those that run off the outside of the plate. Youk has had trouble with the slider in his career but he appears more challenged by it this year than at any time that I can remember.

Haha, I know, I know. But since Adrian has been struggling so hard as of... all season, I thought we'd give him a break on that one.

Oh yeah, I realize that. But I see you like positive trends too.

I would say that if we cannot upgrade our pitching we will finish worse than last year, which is below 9th in the AL. That will translate into no playoffs for the third year in a row. Unacceptable, at best.

That is not trending in the right direction, unless you disregard this week and the first 2 weeks of the season. Then we are doing great.

At the end of September we will be disregarding this season as an aberration, even though its the third year in a row the team will be watching October baseball instead of playing it.

Mediocre teams do this: have a little run, then a losing streak. It all evens out so that in the end, its right around .500 baseball, which is where we are at. Frankly, I think that will continue all year.

People will blame bad luck, injuries, etc., but it will never occur to them that the team isn't very good. There's no Papelbon to blame this year.

It's all relative. There may not be any really good teams in the AL this year. Texas looked great for awhile but they have really fallen back, 33-25 going into tonight.

The biggest thing to me is that they are no free passes in the AL East anymore. We used to be able to fatten up our win total by pounding on the Rays (pre-2008), the Orioles and the Jays, and that's 18 games times 3. Now there are no easy games against those teams.

The Sox are a poorly constructed team...been saying that for awhile and I don't see management as committed to eating contract to right the wrongs of the past. If not, it remains a poorly constructed team made up of to many high salary long term contracts, to few cost controlled young players all of them not really meshed well to result in a team effort. Baseball does not require a team effort necessarily but the parts must mesh well.

It is a little like the Miami Heat. Not enough basketballs to go around for King James, DWade and Bosh and one taking the lead from the other just at the right moment is simply to complicated a task. They may finally win one of these days but I expect if they get past the Celtics who they should have blown out of the water, they will be beaten by Ok City, a well constructed team of mostly younger players with a few seniors for stability and experience. So they are paying three guys superstar salaries when really only one of them can play like a superstar at a time.

The Miami Heat are a poorly constructed basketball team as we are a poorly constructed baseball team.

Why does a team that plays half its games at Fenway need to pay CC and Ells upwards of what their combined salaries will be? If they are both playing well they are basically the same player. That is a Theo mistake but we are still stuck with it and unfortunately, CC and and Ells is just an example of a more widespread problem.

This team is disgusting.

I hope they lose their remaining games in their schedule.

I know how you feel. There were stretches that I thought that the best thing for the team was to lose game too. The end of last year was an example. I think that in the long run that choke job was for the best. Had we made the playoffs Epstein and Francona would still be here, and fans would not be voting with their feet this year. We were never going to be able to compete for a ring last year; we would have exited in round 1, most likely, anyway. Now everyone can see that the King has no clothes.

Its too early this year to wish for losses IMO. If we manage to pry Garza loose from the Cubs, get rid of some deadwood like Youkilis, Byrd, McDonald, Punto, Podsednik, Morales and maybe a few others we could still compete for the playoffs, albeit not a ring. If its getting close to the end of the season and our FO has done nothing to correct our pitching by then, I will be rooting for losses too. If the FO does not see the problem by then, we must not make the playoffs because to do so would provide them with an excuse. And there are no more excuses.

I don't ever want my teams to lose, but this happened to my footy team too. I got to the point where a loss become acceptable because you felt at it may make the decision makers address the problems.

To use a cricket phrase, the Red Sox pitchers are 'throwing pies' and that has been a problem for a while now. Even last season it was but we had the firepower to get us out of I as well as JP to shut up shop when needed. But the September slump should have been a warning sign. Top level management took the fall, but the on field issues weren't fully addressed.

Graduating tonight? Awesome' date=' grats. Glhf.[/quote']

Congrats man, I just recently graduated myself.

Anyway, I'm kind of glad I have literally nothing to do tonight, I haven't sat down and watched a Sox game since early May.

Thank you both.

Nice title. More proof of your inferiority as a fan.

Yeah man, it's my favorite quote.

Let's hope dice k can refrain from getting s*** on tonight. To be honest I'll settle for 5 IP 3 ER. Hopefully we can take the next two games. Gonzalez is gonna be tough tonight but you still have to play the games and you never know.

If Dice-K doesn't hit two baters by the fifth inning that will be a step up from Bard.
